For the first time I noticed on audible.com and then I read some books on web pages that are a really great start of a four-part series (The Lunar Chronicles) is.
After I've read through the summary, but I was not sure if that's really something for me:
People and androids living in the streets of New Beijing - more than 100 years after the Fourth World War. A deadly plague threatens the world's population. From Space, Dark Queen of Luna watched the struggle of the people. She's waiting, waiting for the right moment to strike. No one knows that the fate of the earth is hanging on a single girl Cinder, a gifted mechanic and a cyborg. Reviled by her stepmother she meets one day Prince Kai on the market, which it asks to repair his androids.
And suddenly plugged Cinder the heart of the dispute with Luna and in the middle of a complicated non-relationship with the heir to the throne. She is caught between duty and freedom, between loyalty and betrayal. In order to save the future of humanity, she must uncover the secrets of her past ....
Cinder, a wicked stepmother and a prince?
Yes, that is a familiar. It's a Cinderella story - one that you will not soon forget.
Cinderella as Cyborg's been a little unusual idea, so I was initially skeptical. But since we have the Grimm year and I wanted to read some new counts of fairy tales, I fetched the book anyway.
And now that I am done, I will immediately have the second part! * Argh *
Of course, the story and the characters are built up in the first part first.
Cinder is absolutely adorable. Despite or perhaps because of its many problems, it is incredibly strong and independent. The wicked stepmother is as evil as it should be, the brutal Queen Levana from Luna so manipulative and power hungry, as one would only imagine and Prince Kai exactly as you imagine a prince.
The fairy-tale aspects are therefore fully met.
History itself offers unusual ideas and numerous supporting characters that fit wonderfully into the action and are wonderfully alive - especially Iko I have fallen in love. Also all the developments, the androids that make ID chips, the colony on the moon, the possibility of human to cyborg, make this book an interesting and entertaining reading.
Of course you have to keep in mind that it is after all a fairy tale that could be read even older children. So if you expect most accurate technical details or a complex narrative of historical events, will certainly be disappointed. The plot is somewhat predictable. Once "Selene" is mentioned, we know where the wind blows, the harm to the book - but in my opinion not demand. It is nevertheless interesting to read, just as the others come to that which you yourself already know long.
I myself was a very short time on fire and had to overcome to put down the book really. I even put in quasi New Beijing and did not really back to Hessen)
Although it has said weaknesses, the firstfruits of Marissa Meyer of me gets loose 5 Cinder asterisk and a recommended reading for all those young at heart fairytale fans out there.
A truly original Cinderella Version!
