Drummer Ed Thigpen died on 13 January 2010 in Copenhagen where he resided since 1972. He distinguished himself with numerous musicians like Billy Taylor, especially with Oscar Peterson and Ella Fitzgerald. In Copenhagen he taught and accompanied the greatest jazz musicians of passage in the city club Montmartre. He played a lot with the pianist Kenny Drew (another American artist living in Copenhagen) and bassist Niels-Henning Orsted Pederson.
