Main application:

Commissioning:
Simply insert into the still empty carriage, and shove the Acer NAS and clip. The new board was of course immediately recognize, and after performing "Add" button in the menu area server storage, the drive will be ready after a few seconds.
Operation:
Yes, and they also since 2 weeks now doing their duty, like the three other WD drives also, in continuous operation, reliably and quietly. The system is in a corner of the living room, and actually, only when really all the other noise sources are switched off in the room and in the evening's hearing is a little more sensitive. It is in the operating hand-warm, the warmest component in the system is the Atom processor with the 55-57 °, the remaining approximately 28 ° in the stress-free continuous operation.
Performance:
That's a little difficult without a test lab with standard conditions. Here in practice this depends of course on the configuration of the local network and the Acer NAS environment. Fritz box, router and also the Acer NAS support all Gbit / LAN connections, here, at least not a bottleneck exist. An example when copying of 1000 MP3 files with 3,4GB results in a duration of 3:20 minutes. A rough guide through several tests with different large amounts of data and files are round 1GB data in one minute (equivalent to 133Mbit / s). But that in turn seems to be very little, for so expect SATA-600 or the upper limit of 1000 Mbits / s with Gbit LAN allows (the need yet another analysis).
So be it, backups run overnight or in the background, the speed is not really there in the foreground. A NAS drive must be reliable in continuous operation VA.
CONCLUSION: The "Red" series of WD is designed specifically for NAS systems. So far it does exactly what it should: in continuous operation reliable, quiet and not too hot "right to work towards." Award goes to 2TB in order. So far 5 Stars.
PS: my copy was produced incidentally on 16.2.15 in Thailand, which is on top of the plate.
