I was anxious to read this tome 3, because I loved the first two, and in addition it made me complete a saga thus combo! While it is true that the first pages, I struggled to plunge into this universe (not ask me why, I do not know>
So we find Peter, who was saved by Arnaut Noble claws. However, even if it is his company, he feels lonely. Indeed, affected by the loss of magic, the Hunter and the lion Arnaut are gone, and he fell in a heavy coma after saving the boy's life. Especially a violent winter descends on the country, forcing them to show care and protect themselves. But how Peter will he be able to get by and save them from the yoke of Outrepasseurs Noble, who seems to take more and more insurance? And if the Lion House basement had the solution?
As I said above, the start was quite difficult for me because I had almost forgotten what had happened, although my reading of Volume 2 was recent. But never mind! Cindy Van Wylder knew things up beautifully and snatched me in this third installment without my noticing. What I really appreciated was that even if the Hunter is absent from this adventure at the beginning of each chapter, we find him telling us his life and why he became what he is. And I can tell you that the more we advance, the more you unexpected revelations. And the end of his story is ... woh, to be honest, I did not expect this turn of events. The author has a way of ramanier tales and pass the nicest people that we have known being young, the worst plagues. Well yeah, if it's not funny!
Regarding the plot, everything intensifies for Peter and his friends. They gradually discover that they are roll in flour, and then some. The action is omnipresent, with lots of revelations that keep us in suspense and prevent us to rest the book. Honestly, I devoured this book, while I was thinking of doing some breaks (forced labor). Well no! I have not been able to let go, and from the moment when everything becomes more complex and at the same time the truth comes out, it is caught in the atmosphere and we can not put it down.
As for the characters, Peter remains true to itself and armed himself with a new insurance policy he had not in previous volumes. The more the story progresses, he feels able to move mountains to save those he loves, the risk of suffering for them. Accompanied new people, he finds another parcel of his world which is much larger than he imagined. He had trouble with his status Outrepasseur, but with the revelations made to him, he sometimes struggles to recover. But he is strong and proves it several times.
As for Shirley, if I had trouble with his thoughts and personality in previous volumes, here I learned to know and appreciate. To contact Peter, she realizes her mistakes and is desperate to make amends. This is what makes it stronger and more endearing to readers. It is also an important pawn in the battle waged his friend and a shoulder on which to rest, even if some doubts repeatedly.
There are obviously just another array of characters, but I would not want you giving too much away. But I enjoyed Hersent (which is different from previous volumes and very touching), Smokey is brand new and has a sacred character, but many others, I leave you the pleasure to discover!
As for the end (well, the term "end" is not very appropriate, given that I speak rather of the last 100 pages, I finally). So this purpose is ... impressive, compelling and full of suspense that keeps you going. Sometimes when a text is too narrative, even in action, I tend to get faster. But here, it is true that the last 100 pages are quite narrative ... but the author manages brilliantly to turn the situation and make things increasingly prevents us to blink, afraid to miss a thing important. Believe me, have the faint of heart, as you may be angry, sad and surprised with this outcome. For me it is a perfect end to a saga to discover urgently!
In summary, a rather difficult start, time for me to dive back into this universe and then ... happiness in its purest form to finally have all the answers to the questions, with new twists that are downright welcome. The author has managed to surprise me several times (especially with the history of the Hunter I found just perfect) with old characters who find their insurance, and the new ones that bring more to the saga. So a series I strongly recommend. An end very well written, compelling and who fucks a heavy heart when completed ...
