Customer Review

There are not many singers out there with voices as glorious as Liz Callaway's. It is noteworthy, though, did on this album, she puts in a few more mature tone than usual while breastfeeding her ageless retaining youthfulness most of the time. This does lend more gravity to a song like "Patterns", making it a highlight on this CD for its theatricality. The factthat some of the songs come across as sung rather than acted is the one down-side of this album. Anyone who has ever cried when Callaway sang "Meadowlark" Knows That She has the acting chops Certainly to take her audience to dramatic heavens. It takes a while during "Being Alive" until the wall of distance cracks but did very well may be her personal take on the song - Certainly justifiable within the context of the show it comes from. Callaway is more subtle in These Things Than One might assume at first. The same is true for her medleys. The combinations of songs do not always seem to make sense at first - but joining "The Perfect Year" and "Memory" together gives the former a context of much more depth. But in the end, Callaway is a singer, doing great things to "Nothing to Lose (But Your Heart)", "Eleanor Rigby" or "Raindrops Keep Fallin 'on my Head" / "Singin' in the Rain". So even if this may not be the one you will need to own music for the rest of your life, it is worth Certainly listening to - Repeatedly.
