About the technical features I need not say much here.
The excellent image quality and the fast lens are a big selling point for this camera, the superbly situated with its 350 grams in his hand, and with its size easy to operate even by powerful men hands. Nevertheless, I would still describe as compact camera, because it really fits in your pocket and you as the holiday has to lug around any bulky and heavy photographic equipment with them.
Changes from the G15 are the wireless function, although I did not need, and which is now possible record videos in HD quality with 60 frames / second, instead of as in the G15 with only 30 This is an entirely more visible improvement - the video runs just liquid.
Unfortunately, one has to save the panoramic function in G16, which I think is a shame. Granted - it was also in the previous cameras not the absolute cream of the crop and the junctions of the panoramas created by the "PhotoStitch" software were on closer inspection quite partially recognizable, but the function was generally useful and yielded good results. I hope that Canon offers this function when successor again - perhaps even in an improved form.
Canon advises well today on the question of how to produce panoramas to simply shoot individual photos and then compose even with this "PhotoStitch" software, but a useful panorama is me, unfortunately (but only at a trial) failed , But perhaps I have to just practice more. ;-)
The saving of the panorama function is then also the only shortcoming that I negatively evaluated at the G16, which, however, my overall rating for this camera does not diminish.
A lack of folding screen, as it had the G11, I have also tested times, has never missed you and I do not need it. Rather I felt it so that it makes the camera bulky. And we're honest - how often do we use such a display when shooting in everyday life then actually? You knipst Most photos but on the "traditional way". Canon is therefore certainly something thought about to abolish the folding screen at the followers again.
Most recordings I make the way in the P function at ISO 80 or in the ISO Auto setting.
Another helpful feature is the dial wheel for the exposure compensation, which allows you to correct very quickly for each to knips photo that the exposure setting for plus or minus when the preview image displayed on the display appear too bright or too dark for me as a user. In my view, an ingenious invention that minimizes the work with the camera much easier and the rejection rate of the images due to incorrect exposure.
Even night shots of landscapes and in cities succeed excellent - but less with the Scene Mode "night shots without a tripod," but rather, where I set the camera on a mini tripod and a small "The Pod" - a container filled with granules , round "hockey puck". Just enter "The Pod" here in the search and then look for the yellow (yellow), which is suitable for this camera.
For night shots I have own settings placed on the assignable to individual preferences Shooting "C1" and "C2" (self-timer after 6 seconds, ISO 80, exposure time 1 second), I simply views on the choice of one of these two modes. The preset exposure time I can then quickly and easily by rotating the front dial to adjust the appropriate lighting conditions and also be adjusted upwards or downwards - so you can see immediately on the screen if you over- or underexposed.
In this way I can show excellent night photography.
All in all, the G16, in my view, a "round" and sophisticated camera that occurs worthy of following in the footsteps of their predecessors from the G-series and I can fully recommend to buy.
