Relatively easy to use video recorder.
VHS picture quality surprisingly good. Drive seems to be OK and is head and shoulders above that of the Panasonic VCRs the last series!
Dubbing from VHS to DVD very easy. Cassette in, press pause (so then the picture with the DVD starts), then switch to DVD, select recording time and press Dubbing, easier it is almost impossible. Result ok.
Negatives:
Well, and now, unfortunately, comes the negatives what has moved me to return the recorder. The recorder has built on the back of a fan. - No, not the usual problem, in other words one hears about the fan. - You hear anything! - But: The fan starts to run as soon as you turn on the device and the "great" is, these fans spread an unpleasant metallic / chemical smell throughout the room. First I am wondering where the smell is coming from, smells about the housing so? - No. The Remote Control - Yes but significantly by Chemistry was, after a few days. - But what is being blown by the fan from the device that is no longer solemnly.
Reminds me of the smell of the one in which sometimes can smell one or other PC power supply, or even in a few years old notebooks. Some stink metallic and unpleasant when the fan starts up and the power supply to the PC running, others not at all. But now that this fan (PSU) might the Toshiba DVD recorder so secrete an unpleasant odor, so I did not expect (would have thought the built-in video recorder would scrap or similar - but with nieces).
After that with the smell operation has not changed even after several weeks, the unit goes back unfortunately, very unfortunate, because I found the price-performance really good! Too bad! You have probably caused by power supply / fan saved a few cents, it stinks. I do not feel like it, certainly not in the living room, sorry Toshiba. For the same reason I have ever returned a Samsung and Eizo TFT monitor because a very similar smell is, risen through the vents, thanks to built-in PSU. But for example, a (also purchased from Amazon) 32 inch LG LCD TV and also has ventilation slots incl. Integrated power supply and everything is ok and also the Xbox360 which is really warm and so constantly a fan is running, does not stink! We also have a rear projection TV from Toshiba, which makes no such thing! - Well too bad! Otherwise I would have the Toshiba D VR 52 quite given 4 stars! Who the story with the smell does not bother (or is not as sensitive, such as smoking or if you constantly enveloped in a perfume Duftwolke lives) who gets here (at least what you say after 3 weeks of operation as a solid piece of equipment at a good price can)!
Technically Top (4 stars), odor technically flop (1 star)!
