I own the N900 since early December 2009, shortly after it became available. if I now, more than half a year later, again have to make a decision about a new mobile phone (because it was stolen, destroyed, whatever), I would buy it again. Even compared to the current competition. I mainly use it for surfing, music, messages, and navigation as a mini-terminal. Is surfed on all possible and impossible sides, with or without flash, had never a problem. "Mobile" versions of websites are only necessary wenns degree are poor 3G or 2G reception, and even then usually only found on larger volume really the full versions. Meanwhile, many sites have the N900 Maemo browser already invested in the mobile category and directing accordingly, but the user agent has changed quickly thanks to a simple program. :) For music playback, I can not complain. The sound on the jack output is very good, I hear mostly on AKG 271 Studio headphones, which are quite sensitive to noise and static. The built-in speakers are surprisingly good (and surprisingly loud), but despite everything, just only Built :) The Standard Player Although not many great features, but is sufficient MMN, and there are already alternatives. I manage 3 mail accounts on the N900, including my company account via Exchange. We do not ask for "provisioning" of our mobile devices, therefore works out the synchronization via "Mail for Exchange" in the Maemo version without any problems. Some features are missing here, unfortunately, but to keep up to date, if necessary, to write responses and manage appointments it was good enough. I also associate myself now and then via SSH, RDesktop, VNC or Citrix Receiver (which can be under Easy Debian install) on the desktops of different servers or clients. That's for my work often necessary, and I have learned to greatly appreciate having to lug around for quick errands no laptop. As a Linux user, I also feel in XTerminal very well, and although it is certainly not necessary for the average user to hang around on the command line, for me that is an important and powerful feature of this device. This excellent keyboard that's a lot less annoying than you might think :) Originally, I looked around for an English assignment because I was somewhat suspect the combined arrow keys with the Germans, but who turned out to be no problem. For games perhaps less optimal, but the few games that I've looked at all could be configured in this regard.
Write Oh, calling and texting I do every now and then :) To report any irregularities here, perhaps worth mentioning is the grouping of all conversations by contact, I find a very handy feature.
To repeatedly bekrittelten battery life I can only say that I have absolutely no problem with it. The device always depend on me overnight power, and I had yet almost never during the day recharge (ok, the first few days may already * g *). When I copy the half memory card via WLAN or after an intense, hours of installation / uninstallation session it is sometimes necessary, but on a normal day (3-4h music, 1-2h surfing, few SMS and 2-3 short calls, mailsync once hour) are typically 15-20% more juice in the battery when I plug it again at bedtime. One must not halt have half a dozen constantly-updating widgets are on the desktop or expect 12h video playback, then has this been going: P In pure Phone mode (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and services / widgets disable) it considers necessary by even a weekend.
All in all, a powerful little phone computer also needs of power users as grown thanks to its GNU / Linux inner life to me. For the Linux community anyway the first choice)
