Much has been speculated the launch delayed several times unpleasant. Several bugs have been reported from countries that it had before Germany. But no matter. The experience DHD I want to describe deliberately subjective because objective tests to satisfy existence and in user reviews IMHO especially counts how it feels subjectively.
From the first touch of my DHD struck me:
This model, probably one of the series somewhat later after the devices UK / NL, is better processed, as has been speculated. You have to imagine that the entire back is made of metal and the flash on the top left, on the side, and at the bottom are made of high quality plastic valves that release the entrances to antennas, SIM card and battery.
These valves fit perfectly in my -entgegen emerged Reports- all. Even the SIM card cover fits without gaps!
The assembly is -if you look at the manual Rela- no problem! People who destroy their doors due to improper and I-do-the-now-just-times-as-setting I can not understand. The colors are much more natural than on AMOLED, the viewing angle stability is the the AMOLED and Retina displays nothing after and contrast and brightness are better than the retina and more natural than the AMOLED. Prepare yourself no concern to the display. It is very, very, very good! The resolution just fine, one sees so rarely jaggies.
The size of the display is enormous. 4.3 "or 11cm screen diagonal, the polarized. I think it's fantastic, many around me thought it was too big. For the average Joe consumer, it is impossible, without changing your grip to reach all points with just one thumb. For me not problem annoying for others.
Toll is resolved that the display goes almost to the brim. That seems very noble and also the touch buttons below make a great unit with the display. Overall, the controls greatly to the high-quality impression of the phone. The display surface looks as if it can withstand a lot, at 600 but I would not take a chance with no protector or pocket it. But after 4 weeks use I have not even the trace of a scratch on the screen with only partial use cell phone pocket. Very high quality. The bag I have now two weeks, so I feel right now anyway better.
To the rear. 8MP camera with nice centrally above-Covered, not too far out standing lens (since HTC has learned from his mistakes in Touch HD2), HTC logo in chrome, 2 LED lights as lightning, metal surface. The darker plastic flap many consider "the look zerklüftend" I find them nicely integrated. Maduro Brown is the perfect color for this precious phone. Total IMHO nothing destroys the high-end claim and classy look. But that's a subjective evaluation. In any case, the back is incredibly robust. NO use trace on the back after 4 weeks and I think it stays that way. No gloss plastic that can scratch, high-quality paint the metal, solid-colored plastic, high-quality camera ring ... Here the DHD is its high-end claim more than fair!
For Use:
Fed power. I think that describes the DHD correctly. 1GHz CPU, 768MB RAM 2000 points in Quadrant benchmark, instant response to every input, no load times of applications, widgets u.ä ... That's really, really enjoy. The performance is so appealing that I use my laptop significantly less and much'm spontaneously on the DHD. 1.5GB of internal memory, 1GB of system to be used, 8GB memory card enclosed, max. 32GB possible. That's enough!
The capacitive touch screen is doing to be the way. High accuracy, high resolution, superfeinfühlig ... There really is no shortage of superlatives. I have never been able to use a cell phone so great off the iPhone.
Ever help the great screen size and relative to the lower resolution iPhone the DHD to properly display large buttons, virtual buttons and the like with preserved good overview. To incorrect entries hardly occurs and the keyboard in landscape mode is currently the absolute scale and significantly better than Apple.
The camera suffers from typical cell phone picture of weak dynamics, but a camera phone does not want to be and for great pictures I take my DSLR the DHD. The music player with built-in SRS and Dolby Mobile does its job with good headphones great. The DHD speakers themselves are, unfortunately, very quiet and great need of improvement. That's one of the weaknesses of the DHD. Navigation in noisy car without jack connection to the radio (not everyone has that) is a joke. And the "sound enhancer" SRS and Dolby Mobile are really a matter of taste. I find them useless and bad.
The Internet of the DHD can really something. In addition to WLAN standard n, configuration option as a wireless access point (!!!), tethering (PC on mobile Internet), Internet transit (PC-Internet via USB on your mobile phone), HSDPA high-speed mobile Internet and multi-touch operation (pinch-to-zoom ) with the new Google mobile browser (Chrome source) leads to a real Internet experience on the phone.
CAUTION: WITHOUT Handyflatrate the DHD only worth half and provides in its Internet independence a real threat to your wallet is!
The grandiose Internet experience leads me straight to another key feature:
The optimization of Android 2.2 by HTCSense is enormous. The mobile phone is a maximum cross-linked.

A final weakness is the DHD. The battery. The first week he holds only about 12 hours. After really all cells are active after several charge cycles, it is about 14-17h. Conscious dealing with Internet and display lighting expands the whole again to ca 20h. Not famous. You constantly need a charging cable everywhere and at night it must always almost empty grid. Well, power comes at a price and now the battery lasts long enough for me. Would be nice for longer!
Conclusion: Except for small weaknesses I never had a better phone and could never recommend one so full!

The Proximity Sensor Failure is naturally solved via update.
The User A. Dobler and O. Coljon reported in the comments point out that the sound of their opinion, with good headphones is unparalleled and the sound enhancer are then also to be welcomed. I can agree fully.

Nearly 1 year the DHD is now with me in operation. Meanwhile on Android 2.3.3. (Gingerbread) + HTC Sense 2.1.
There is not much to change in this review. But against the background that in the meantime some other phones got out, I want to provide a few updates:
1.)
Update Policy of HTC:
HTC is still the updates always quickly available. Only DHDs by network operators (O2, Telekom, Vodafone) have at times unbearably long wait for the "operator-examination". Therefore always better HTC original.
2.)
Stamina:
Hardware: To date, no failure. No significant battery loss. Scratches from falling down: Yes. Unpleasant because deep in metal and therefore shiny-striking. In addition, the lens ring, as the most prominent structure now polished on the outer edge. This could have been avoided by a protective sheath.
Otherwise, all materials are so good that the mobile phone everywhere I'm not to blame, still looks like new (fall). General scratches etc. I do not have the plastic inlays in aluminum unibody look like this, as on day 1, the display shines as day 1 (with protective film). Very good.
And I use the phone very intense.
Software: 2 fatal errors, which is blamed for Android here: 1) After 6 months all SMS away. SMS database was faulty and could not be displayed. Since Android directly creates a new, was without professional help because there is no more rankommen. I've saved. 2) With Android 2.3.3. does the synchronization between Google Calendar and mobile calendar no longer, so that I no longer get all appointments online stored appear. So far, no solution.

By newer phones the Super LCD technology is not quite up to date with 800x480. Super AMOLED Plus technology in Samsung Galaxy SII offers here now not only better contrast and better black, but also to improved AMOLED colors and lack of blue-veil in an inclined posture. Also today are higher resolutions in this price range consistently (HTC Sensation: qHD resolution).

Audio:
The speakers are compared with other phones really bad. And "really bad" means really bad. Quiet, squawking, indistinct ...
The audio chip behind the 3.5 jack but must be praised over my original review again more. I run now Beyerdynamic DT990 Edition headphones to it and have to say: Of all my disposal 3.5-jack devices, the DHD had by far the best sound! Is really fun!
Camera:
2010 already not the best, no longer up to date. The iPhone4 hopelessly inferior. Just Samsung Galaxy SII and other high-end smartphones. Enough for snapshots for viewing on mobile, no more. It rushes fast, dynamic image is bad, sharpness okay. Videos are ok.
Power:
Thoroughly recommended today. After all, it is still compared to a lot of RAM to a very high clocked single-core processor and a still very good Adreno graphics unit. Even in the era of dual-core smartphones still had no performance penalty Hab. Whoever does not date very hardware-hungry games, is still very well served.
Internet (mobile browser):
