Customer Review

Anyone who is looking for a compact solution of a keyboard and mouse functions, the Rii K12 should look at it more closely. The Rii K12 is very small and compact, require thanks to a USB dongle no Bluetooth and can be connected to any device and used. When I saw the Rii K12 for the first time I was just curious as to what this is all about, because never before have I seen such a compact keyboard with such a variety of functions. The 2.4GHz wireless technology I liked right away, although the keyboard uses a USB dongle but Bluetooth is not needed. And just on a Raspberry Pi makes the small Rii K12 a really great job! Overall, I would unfortunately go into the properties and the advantages and disadvantages of the keyboard here after I could now test extensively the keyboard.

So, in the photos looks the Rii K12 already times really good! Surprised, I was a little when she arrived with me. Not because the photos promised too much, rather the opposite, but rather because of the compact dimensions. The keyboard is just 26cm wide and 8.5cm high and with a thickness of 1.3cm quite slim. It is by far the smallest keyboard I've ever held in my hands and to keep really pleasant with just 205g. The first impression therefore had a direct positive effect on me out, because at first sight it keeps definitely delivers what it promises.

Processing appears at first glance also very positive. The keys act tough and rough, not like many other products smooth, but a bit rough on the surface, what really makes typing much more comfortable. The keys have a pleasant and clean pressure point, as beautiful quiet and pleasant. The keys sit really clean side by side, no big gaps here and there, what also struck me right away. The touchpad of Rii K12 is attached well to the right and fits perfect in my opinion the overall picture. The back is made of an aluminum alloy, which gives the keyboard a little more feel. This becomes especially noticeable when trying the Rii K12 to bend slightly. Here you quickly realize that this is not so simple, I think even a fall from the table to the floor can not easily damage something of Rii K12.

Furthermore, I find the 2.4 GHz technology as very positive, because it does not rely here on Bluetooth. While the keyboard has as already written above its own USB dongle (transmitter / receiver), but nevertheless the use of works primarily with a Raspberry Pi compared to a Bluetooth keyboard a lot better and easier. The advantage here at the Rii K12 is simply because that they do not lose their connection, as no less than often occurs in Bluetooth and Raspberry PI. I myself have already tested many Bluetooth keyboards from various manufacturers, always tear apart the BT connections from and you have to connect again. This stays here at least save what is really optimal, especially when used with a Raspberry Pi. For example, in use with OpenELEC / Kodi, as a media center.

I could successfully test the K12 Rii the following devices:

Raspberry Pi 1 + 2
Windows 8.1 x64 PC
Apple Macbook (Late 2011)
Sony Bravia TV
Playstation 4

On all devices, the Rii K12 keyboard is detected easily.

Depending on whether the tested by me terminal had the mouse control, this has also worked wonderfully. Installation is easy: USB dongle plug in, switch keyboard, finished. A driver installation is not necessary as a rule, since the keyboard is recognized as a standard input device and initialized. I suspect that the mouse buttons (bottom left) are simply simulated as a command, the touchpad on the right hand, works in principle like a touchpad from Latop. 1 fingerclick = left mouse button, 2 finger click = right mouse button. Clean solution, I think. And all this in such a compact small keyboard.

Respect. the battery life I can not say much. However, the date was quite positive. The Rii K12 has installed a 300 mA battery, which really should persevere long time. I myself had not yet been charged, so I can also make any more precise information. Maybe I add it later added when making the behavior noticeable.

Now we come to negative, because even here some noticeable.
Although the rather small things, but just these little things are the ones that you would be able to save.

It is particularly negative noticed:

... The keyboard layout! So there you could have done really more drauß. I mean, klaro, They truly try to get as much as possible to the compact dimension, which indeed is somewhere succeeded. But why the hell you push then the keys ß and Ä as down ?! This fits so absolutely not into the overall picture and write the immensely confused. Also, the arrow-block right, which is to the left of the shift key, so I think rather poor. The Enter key and probably one of the most important keys on the other hand kept quite small. Frankly I am surprised because that the spacebar was ever left so great! ;-) Well, there would be the keyboard but can do no less than even 2-3cm larger in order to prevent these defects, right ?!

... Rubber feet on the back are very poorly finished. There are 2 large front made of rubber, which are glued. The first is gone with me after a few minutes, has thus replaced relatively quickly and was gone. When I had found it after hours of searching and finally mounted, I realized quickly that the top "feet" (see product photos, the small circles above, back) are not made of rubber but plastic. Means that you forward though has the 2 rubber feet but above do not. This of course has the consequence that when the keyboard typing but then like to slip. Why you have not mounted up even 2 rubber feet, is beyond me. Is really not a big deal to me but fell on directly.

... The "stable" status was with me such a thing. My copy tilts slightly backwards down the right. So it is just not accurate, which is probably due to the processing. Certainly not a big deal, but I definitely want to address anyway.

... Warning to anyone with a sweet tooth: How already recognize well on the product photos, sits the entire Tastaur (apart from the touchpad on the right) in a sort of "frame". There are approximately 3-4mm open at the edge as well as between all key, which is not really covered. One should therefore avoid better to eat sweets like cookies, pretzel sticks & Co. In addition, since the whole crap then otherwise end up in the keyboard. And I think that this would be on the basis of open construction not so prinkelnd ... ;-)

+++ +++ CONCLUSION

One should I mentioned defects not take it too seriously or be put off it, after all, one must consider the intended use. The layout can live one, since one because of the size certainly not a 10-finger writing alone will execute it. I at least did not make it, but maybe I just too thick fingers. Respect. the rubber feet and the slightly unstable state have to decide for yourself whether you can live with it. I myself have the Rii K12 on the sofa in use, because I neither the rubber feet, yet the stable state to use something because I've usually are anyway on his feet. And respect for the thing. Cookies, pretzel sticks & Co, one should just snacking on on the keyboard do without better before something ends up in it. ;-)

So, all in all a really great keyboard which is optimally suited for use on the sofa. I can recommend the Rii K12 particularly suitable for use with a Raspberry Pi, because this simply wonderful harmony with it. Especially in use with OpenELEC / KODI a wonderful addition of a keyboard and mouse. Small, lightweight and compact with all the keys you need for the default application, just great!

Again in brief in brief:

+ Super price / performance ratio
+ Compatible with any device (USB vorrausgesetzt)
+ Small and compact, very light
+ Comprehensive (albeit slightly versetzes) keyboard layout
+ Includes mouse buttons (simulated) and touchpad (similar to laptop)
+ Very robust, clean processing, cleaner and quieter pressure point of the keys
+ In my opinion, the perfect keyboard for Raspberry Pi

For the price really worth considering!
One should give the Rii K12 definitely a chance.

From my side definitely a strong buy recommendation! :-)
