I think by now has become common knowledge that recordings on 'DVD-Audio' a much higher resolution and thus also a staggeringly high detailed drawing of all voices and instruments permitted in comparison to MP3, CDs or other standard preservative. From the dynamics and surround sound without data reduction aside times ...
But that such a large difference in the sound would be heard even from the 5.1 DTS and MLP Lossless 5.1 surround version I did not think all experiences. Clear are generally SACDs and DVD-Audio to DTS and Dolby Digital superior shots, but the jump I have never so powerful noticed as in this disc.
For all 5.1 versions of the same versurroundeten mixes (by Steve Wilson) underlie. The resolution of the DTS version is far more compressed and thus undifferentiated in the representation of the individual instruments and voices. And this also has an impact on the placement in space. DTS manscht everything together into a mishmash. Reverbs are to wander about the room are little airy and trackable. Almost as if you all * cough * stereo effects on a * * hüstelhüstel mono speaker radio play ... Clear, grumble a very high level!
At 5.1 mix is striking that Wilson has the votes to Reverb almost completely taken away. Thus, these are far more clearly, but also very dry ... like standing with the recording studio in the acoustically-anechoic chamber.
The room drawings are plasticized only by the instruments and their effects. This requires a little getting used to from, especially if you expect the "Space perception" of the original stereo recording of the votes.
Are funny, even on this record some sounds or effects, the plan was not on the stereo version (edited or not recorded). Look for them once ... (yes, iss jetz scho ... Easter?)
The information of the interviews are quite nice for the fans and the 1070 stereo versions of the songs (Maxis and live versions - also some songs from the first album "The Hurting") are very interesting. But who is super toying with the 'Limited Deluxe' version of Songs of the Big Chair certainly more interested in the 5.1 format. Those should also be an indication given: who can play DVD audio system side, which should buy this version. While there is also a 5.1-blu-ray audio to almost half the price, but Blu-rays have now times the property play at higher speeds. And that is often heard from the player here! This noise should but especially the last track 'lists' to be avoided!
Conclusion:
out of 5 stars I would give 6, even though so many a bombast ment sound of the original recordings were somewhat muted and hardly sounds flying through space, so this recording 5.1 comes very close ran to the surround reference !!!
