Talisker himself loves you, or you hate him. The distillery of the Isle of Skye probably distilled the smokiest whiskey outside the island of Islay and may be in terms of smokiness quite measure with a Bowmore or Port Charlotte. In addition to the smoke Talisker offers something that no other distillery in Scotland: a huge peppery, or chilli Catch how now also likes to say.
For a good single malt you should take time. It's the same with the Talisker.
After pouring (ideally in a Nosingglas - by no means a tumbler take) spreads a strong smoky taste in the glass and the nose. But here is a pleasant smoke, reminiscent of a campfire and not intrusive.
The nose gets used something to smoke, flow tremendously fruity sherry notes upward. It is sweet, fruity (black fruit) and immensely enjoyable in combination with the smoke.
With the first sip to taste the sweetness of whiskey. After a few seconds of pepper explodes in the mouth. It is sharp and sharper. After 10-15 seconds kanpp sharpness decreases and disappears. It is sweet again and the smoke spreads throughout the mouth. Some spice from the oak barrel happen.
The finish is long, sweet, slightly smoky and spicy and warming the chest and the stomach.
If you now again smelling the glass, get more fruit flavors and slight caramel and vanilla from bourbon barrels.
The second sip is significantly less, but still sharp.
The Distillers Edition of Talisker is one of the best, if not the best smoky whiskey in the price range of 50-80 euros.
Fans of smoky whiskeys will love it. All those who do not like smoke or do not want to have the sharp character of single malts should better resort to a mild Speyside whiskey.
Two features that should still know a connoisseur:
- The whiskey is not cool-filtered - that is, that he brings the full flavor of the pot still
- Talisker whiskeys are usually dyed with Zuckerkoleur. By ripening in sherry cask but one can assume that this is not in the Distillers Edition so.
Finally, one more note. Anyone who drinks his whiskey on ice or with cola, should save the money and buy a Red Label from the supermarket.
Who wants to broaden his horizon taste, enjoy this exceptional malt most pure and at room temperature. Who the 45.8 percent alcohol by volume are too much, can be diluted with three or four drops of water the whiskey something.
