Note for Mise-a-day versions of Seven, we must start from an existing OS, do not boot from the DVD and format the HD, otherwise it is considered a new installation and no serial number 'is more accepted.
An update can still do, without an upgrade and go on a brand new OS, but only if run it from a windows already installed.
There is a parade: booting from the DVD, make a fresh install from there RELAUNCH a new installation: this will be considered an update and the serial will be accepted: D
