The story is told from the perspective of tollpatischen Bella who has just moved to her father in a rainy town. At the local high school, she meets Edward, who seems to hate at first sight. How was she to know that Edward and his family are vampires who have renounced the man's blood and it represents an irresistible lure for Edward? Shy she avoids him as much as possible, while her fascination grows. Even Edward feels increasingly attracted to Bella, but a relationship between a man and a vampire ever work?
Pleasant and entertaining, the action of TWILIGHT flows there. Gloomy and scary moments are rare and rather settled at the end of the book, when Bella's life is threatened by non-local vampires. Bella tries to very the positives in to see "their" vampires and refuses to be put off by the darker side. This naturally affects the image of the reader - Edwards family members are presented as fascinating and tragic figures who make the best of a difficult situation.
The clumsiness of the protagonist, her initial dislike of the small town and its smaller friction with Edward ensure humorous moments and mitigate the kitsch factor which is undeniably present (but hey, who so what do not like, it will not read!).
The characters are well worked. To facilitate the identification of the reader with the characters, the author deliberately not on stereotypes from the high school milieu waived (the unsportsmanlike Bookworm, the good-looking all-rounder, the girl clique, the wrangling over dates for the school dance, etc.).
When it comes to nostalgia there has worked for me in any case :-)
