Another wrongly almost forgotten album by Prince

Sexy Love (1988) [Vinyl] (Vinyl)

Customer Review

The end of 1987 were all waiting for Prince fans on an untitled black album. Nothing came of it. Prince held it for some reason a publication unworthy. Because some units already have been pressed, the Black Album became one of the best-selling bootlegs ever. The mid-90s it was then published to fulfill the contract with Warner. Could be heard there was mostly gloomy unmelodiöse minimalist funk songs.

In the spring of 1988, Love Sexy appeared next album by Prince, to which had at least saved the ballad When 2 R in Love by Black Album. Musically and of the issues are the Black Album and Love Sexy like night and day. Sexy Love is much more positive and cheerful acts. The lyrics are but me lifted partly still after 25 years and who is to be Spooky Electric, me is still a mystery. In contrast, for example on Sign O 'The Times every text is understandable.
What I always liked about Love Sexy, his band sound. After the separation of The Revolution Prince Sign O 'The Times had largely recorded alone. For Love Sexy he tried again a band together (including with Sheela E. on drums).

The first three songs I No, Alphabet St. and Glam Slam album puts neat funky and partially rocky going. The conclusion of Glam Slam with his synth-strings is pretty much the highlight of the album for me.
Page 1 of the vinyl edition is completed with the grand ballad Anna Stesia.
Page 2 begins with the percussive rock Dance On. With When 2 R In Love and I Wish U Heaven there are two ballads, the latter comes with a minimalist text and rockier.
With the title song and the album Positivity offers two psychedel metallic radio songs with verschlepptem Beat.

The big hits are nowhere to Love Sexy, there was only a moderate hit St. Alphabet. In the US, the album, in contrast to Europe was not very successful. This led subsequently to the commission Batman soundtrack, as Prince again took a hit.
Overall, the album is very homogeneous advised by the band's sound and almost always audible. I'm doing more than a detour around the arg kitschy When 2 R in Love. At first listen, there is not much depend. The songs you have to work out itself.
From production Love Sexy is also timeless and better than many other aged Prince album. From the sound is like no Prince album before or after.
Somewhat annoying is the CD release, the individual tracks are not individually selectable. Do not know if that is so still in new editions. But since there are PCs and CD-burners, splitting into separate tracks with corresponding software should not be a problem anymore.
The vinyl edition is vastly superior to the bass response is very thin sounding CD.
The cover is similarly inconceivable as that of Dirty Mind.

Conclusion:
Loud audible Prince album in 1988 without big hits, but even without big interruptions. Most Prince albums the years 1980-1987 I like but better. Good 4 stars in the rating there.
