The development to today's role-playing has some pleasant features brought forth, you do not want to miss today. One has to admit that Bioware's Mass Effect staging was absolutely brilliant. A sensational circumscribed paragraph of text, as in previous games Infinity comes there not ran, according to their own imagination of the player. And so is also Pillars of Eternity:
Altbackend, edgy, stood still in time. A modern classic? Yes and no.
The great strengths plays Pillars of Eternity by the nostalgia. Old players from the infinity days will have their pleasure, myself included. The graph meets the style of the Infinity engine to 100%. The isometric view can even zoom in and out, if that makes sense but. It took the in Baldur's Gate not, so why here? In addition, all acts about mushy when was completely zoomed in. Spell effects, ambient and figures everything looks just fine and as it was then. Baldurs'Gate still looks fabulous and so it is also Pillars of Eternity. So a point for the modern timeless classic.
For production, we can say only one word: free. As previously needs to be widely read. Cutscenes? Forget! This affects everything as before and delight the nostalgic heart. Disturbing I find only that was still made too little here and there, or unnecessary, for example, I meet a stranger on a way he speaks to me and his text box appears. With his departure, the game disappears from short, just about in the same place undim again. Why? Just let the character go out of the picture. Or I can climb a wall high, said and clicked. Game dims and I stand with my party on the wall. No small animation? Too Bad.
What I do not like about today's role-playing games, is the party size. In the classics you traveled with a group of brave heroes and games like Mass Effect 2 makes me just take, the rest remain on board. Who knows the classics knows what I mean.
And so is my conclusion: Have you loved Baldur's Gate or Planescape? Then get Pillars of Eternity.
