--- --- INITIAL CONTACT
The Sony looks high quality finish, focus and zoom can be supple
turn and in general there are no signs of poor workmanship - the same applies
also for the Tamron.
However, the purely external difference is hard to miss, that's Sony compared
Tamron for a real "tiny" and in contrast to the approximately 770 g of Tamron also
a real lightweight. Weight and size are not a determining factor for me,
Therefore, there is (for me) neither winners nor losers.
--- AUTO FOCUS ---
Both lenses the focus meets with a few exceptions always go where it should.
Nevertheless, there is an essential difference. The Tamron has a ultrasonic AF,
working quickly and almost silently, while the AF from Sony right on the lens "rips"
Although very fast, but unfortunately quite noisy. That's been a problem, if you like me
many videos with the camera picks up the loud sound focus is on recording namely
also very loud to hear. Fast and fail are both lenses, but because of the quiet
USD-drive goes this point the Tamron
--- IMAGE QUALITY ---
GENERAL
For me the most important is the optical power at the long end above 200 mm,
therefore my tests have focused on this area and the area including more
neglected. Basically, both lenses form very well, are pretty sharp in the center
afford as well as on the edge, only at open aperture both small weaknesses at the long end
and the images can somewhat dull, low contrast, or slightly out of focus effect depending on the shooting situation.
Stopping down by one step improves the performance on a very good level.
Chromatic aberration
When Sony were clearly visible again relatively pronounced purple fringing,
the Tamron has realized in this regard in the lead and lets CAs do not even realize at the outset.
Compensate for how much the internal lens correction of the newer Sony SLT models this error
can, I can not judge my tests I conducted with a SLT-A33L unfortunately,
which unfortunately do not yet have these functions. For buyers who already own a newer SLT,
would these internal correction also works for vignetting and distortion
Of course a powerful argument "for" Sony.
=== CORRECTION FROM 13.01.2015 ===
Attentive customer pointed out by the comment that the internal correction in combination with the
SAL is 75-300 apparently does not support what I have now even found on the Sony website.
That speaks very VS Sony lens.
--- --- Final Settlement
Because both lenses have a very good (for this price range) optical power,
I confine myself to the other differences. How much these weights must each
decide for yourself.
First, the Tamron SP 70-300 USD:
+ Silent Ultrasonic AF
+ Excellent correction of chromatic aberrations
- Higher price
- Larger and heavier
And now for the Sony SAL 75-300:
+ Small and lightweight
+ Cheaper to buy
- No support for Sony's internal correction
- Loud autofocus
- Strong color fringing (Without internal correction)
--- --- CONCLUSION
Both lenses are very good and in fact recommended for its price. I have this
Sony yet returned and stayed at the Tamron, because of the excellent
CA-correction and the soft USD Drive.
Who does not have videos and want to save some money can also reassured the Sony attack
However, the internal correction works! incomprehensibly wrong with this lens,
Therefore, I would rather advise to Tamron!
