In 3008, Kirt Niedrigh whose candidacy was rejected by the Legion of Superheroes, convinced the Terran people that Superman was a landowner and he was chasing aliens, causing a wave of xenophobia unprecedented.
In this context deleterious socio-political, Brainiac 5 brought Superman to the thirty-first century to prove otherwise. Upon arrival, Superman discovers that Brainiac 5 has disappeared, the sun turned red and that this incarnation of the Justice League chasing all the aliens and their advocates (especially the members of the Legion).
Geoff Johns again proves he knows to stage a troupe of thirty characters without losing anybody on the road. His scenario is exciting, even for an old player who sees trampled behind John Byrne established in 1986. The story is very readable even for newcomers to the DC universe through two assets. The first is obviously the designer (Gary Frank that you can find in Supreme Power: Contact) which has a very clear and very fine style, while details (its full pages and double pages are beautiful). Some readers may be put off by his facial expressions that give strange expressions and exaggerated slightly in contrast with the physical and scenery much more nuanced. The second asset is the use of tooltips who appoint each character in each episode beginning (with his superhero identity, marital name, his home planet and its powers).
This volume, therefore, to discover the first meeting again with Cosmic Boy, Saturn Girl and Lightning Lad. It allows Superman to renew contact with many members of the Legion (Dawnstar, Wildfire, Colossal Boy, Polar Boy, Shadow Lass, Night Girl, Brainiac 5, Sun Boy ...) and even the Legion of Substitute Heroes (Rainbow Girl, Chlorophyll Kid, Stone Boy ...). Geoff Johns and Gary Frank fully embrace the kitsch side of the latter, on a very serious tone, and bias introduced a second level very tasty. And for those who still want, they have the choice of another adventure of Superman by the same (Superman: Brainiac) or an overhaul of the incarnations of the Legion by Geoff Johns (Legion of Three Worlds).
