The scope of supply
For TomTom Go5000 is a mount for the windshield, a cable that is supplied to download the updates to the PC and as a charging cable that you can connect by means of a well supplied adapter into the cigarette lighter, and a pseudo-detailed physicians guide both. For me as TomTom rookie the instructions was somewhat minimalist. The image description only tells me how I install the device in the best car and that I should connect the device to the PC at home. I lack there a little description of how I can make some settings or operations in the operation. In the case, it is of course good that I already new devices always trying out once without the manual. But that would not make my experience everyone and so unfortunately I can not tell after my Try actuator if I have all the features that were to discover, also found.
The holder, at first somewhat clumsy, does exactly what it should keeps everything firmly, safely and Navi is easy inserted and removed again (Click & Go). What I personally like super firstly that only one cable for all of this is, and that the charging cable while the Navi in the holder simply clamped on these can be plugged.
The first use
Before first use, it is recommended that the device be updated to the latest software and the latest map data. First noted in the TomTom Go5000 is connected via USB to a PC / laptop and software from TomTom installed (MyDrive Connect). It is recommended and to register the device in MyDrive Connect. Because the software automatically detects the device and propose any needed updates. That all worked easily, unfortunately take the updates sometimes very long - 10 hours connect the first, later only ca.4-6 hours (!). Since we have a fast dedicated line, it can not be because. ;) By the way, are already pre-installed 45 countries maps on the TT, I find great. ;)
The optics
Visually, the TomTom Go5000 a solid noble impression, the feel is comfortable and the processing quality.
On the 5 display the card itself is clearly mapped large and thanks to the zoom and wiping technique, which is known from the smartphone ago, optimally accessible to the Klei neste detail.
Unfortunately, TomTom are bidding on the card itself, no additional information such as POIs, which I personally find very useful when you are traveling around in a foreign city. To find a restaurant or a POI to another category is not simply via Navi walkable, but must be sought or requested. The displays for navigation, such as remaining time / arrival time, speed, remaining kilometers, etc. are displayed quite small relative to the size of the display. A slightly larger version of the navigation relevant elements would be desirable. The 3D view like it very much, being here so far only a few houses are displayed in the 3D view. In my opinion, this view but, even if no houses are visible in 3D, much clearer when navigating.
The aim of search and navigation
The unit is after switching very quickly online, and already shows any traffic disruptions within on the map. This Always Connected-feature is very handy and worked previously reliable. I only wish here in the function of being able to report new construction, etc.. There was the occasional slow-moving traffic due to new construction sites that have not been recorded.
Objectives are communicated to the TT Go5000 by entering the menu in various ways.
Under Search can be entered directly roads, postal codes, cities etc. - that there are two columns: the one the device searches for addresses with the contents of the input and in the second column of the Points of Interests / POIs are searched. This search works quite well because the device usually proposes several places. In 95% of cases the desired objective is.
The Destination entry is also by tapping and holding on the map possible (Tap & Go). Here it is recommended for more accurate input, zoom in to the place as far as possible, or necessary, then select. Practically, this type of objective is only when one knows the exact position of the desired target already.
Even searching using GPS coordinates is possible, which is how I find for home use, however, absolutely necessary.
Class I find the function of being able to insert stops in a route. This works flawlessly and also when driving there was no difficulty. Under My routes are stored and easy to find the most recently used destinations.
After entering a destination, the device needs to only a few seconds to calculate the route. However, it may take a little longer at distant targets even before. With four minutes the longest I've been waiting for. However, what is dangerous if this is happening to occur when you're in a hurry.
The route calculated the TT Go5000 completely alone, unfortunately no manual modification of the route is possible. This I can only influence earlier in the menu on the general routing settings.
During navigation can be seen on the right side a route bar, can be seen on both the traffic problems, as well as the distance to the destination, current time, and the next two gas stations. The disadvantage of this navigation bar is (apart from the fact that the most important information here too could be a little bigger), that only the distance will be displayed from the next item on the route. So if we want to know how far the next gas station is located, is not experiencing this once in between even a traffic critical point or is so.
At the top there are important cornering / route notes during the current navigation.
The speed limit, which indicates the TT does not match in any case. At points at which to 22h may be driven faster, the device showed the daytime Km / h speed restriction for after 22 o'clock, and the other way around, at night the limit for the day. That makes at 20Km / h already made some. : /
The arrival has provided no jam has stopped us exactly tuned to the Minute thing that struck me very positively.
The indicator for storage or slow-moving traffic works as described perfectly, but unfortunately the TomTom Go5000 gave us no new / umfahrende route calculated, although would have been there. I have found nothing in the settings that you have set the function separately, so the device indicates to me an alternative route. When did I miss something, I ask me to convey this via comment. ;) Otherwise, I find it a pity that just this function does not work.
Lane guidance is very clear and very accurate, visually as well as in time, this point like.
Additional Features:
A first interesting feature is the warning of speed cameras. First, because while (so far) was warned of all fixed speed cameras, but unfortunately close it. Then the warning time is only when you exactly comply with the speed limit and appropriate moves - and so you need then yes no radar detector (!) - But not if you're a little faster on the road and this feature is precisely then requires quasi. Here the calculation algorithm should be adjusted to reflect a 20% higher running speed. Schade is additionally that the radar spy only for the first three months is free of charge and must be paid thereafter (about 30 / year).
Even before mobile speed cameras is warned here too scarce. In addition, queried whether this is still what you might then respond with Yes / No. However, the question is so short that you can this - during the trip also - usually can not answer in time.
Another feature is the Free Lifetime Maps. That's the way throughout the life of the device 4 times a year to get free map updates. I think that's really convenient, because nothing is more annoying than driving with a navigation system through the streets, which has outdated maps.

The Akulaufzeit is approximately 2-3 hours. That's enough for medium-haul flights, for long journeys the car charger cable should be carried.
One thing here was negative on: We deliberately have the TomTom is moved, until the Aku was empty and the device turned out ultimately. After restarting the charging cable is we expected a resumption of last route, however: this was apparently erased by the power failure (!).

The subjective impression is that of a beta unit. If there is a software update that would fix the designated weaknesses, it would be a strong buy recommendation. It is a device, which you can have. The performance expectation just a TomTom - device is fulfilled here by the performance only suboptimal.
