Our conclusion first: A key for us nüvi 3597LMT disadvantage is that it does not offer the "scenic route". Our Navigon had this option and has piloted us so that over thousands of kilometers through stunning landscapes. While we have a good road map and to us the "green" routes by entering intermediate destinations in the nüvi 3597LMT compose himself, but that is cumbersome compared to the comfort that Navigon has since. Garmin probably has the option to plan routes on your PC and then transfer them to the Navi - but that we have not yet ausprobiert.Aber also generally navigating with Garmin's worse than with the Navigon.
The specifications must not be repeated here, only briefly a few essential points for us:

- The unit is very solid and meticulously crafted, looks and feels really a treat.
- Design is a matter of taste, but the metal casing and glass screen is a joy, if you value not only on functionality but also on style.
- The bracket is also very stable and vibration-resistant and vibration-free sitting.
- The Naviteil itself (as in Becker) just magnetically attached to the bracket - apparently automatically ensures that that the contact pins are properly seated.
- The installation worked fine with us and took everything (registered in GarminExpress, download the 45 country maps Device Registration) about an hour included. The maps Download per se took us only about 20 minutes.
TIP: Be sure to rigorously follow instructions - that is simple and is demonstrated step by step.
- The screen is bright and contrasty (we use the Navi also in an open car in the sun - no problem).
- The fact that the screen is not matte, has not been a problem, although naturally reflect in bright things.
- The silver back does not appreciably disturbing reflections in the windscreen.
- Setting up the Bluetooth connection to two iPhones (but may not be activated simultaneously both) was easy and took less than a minute. But in speakerphone we echo effects and poor quality - we have yet to try out why that is.
- The connection cable between the cigarette lighter and device is not plugged into the Navi itself, but in the holder; so you can remove the Navi without the cable clutter dranhängt.
- GPS signal after power was previously subjectively very fast, safe in less than 30 seconds.
- Route calculation a distance of approximately 300 km (highway and road) takes about 10 seconds, according to shorter distances faster. For "Autobahn avoid" with interim targets it naturally takes longer, but also for everyone in its routes to 500km under 30 seconds.
- The routes are as such - if our first impression in our vicinity - purposeful, but not as good as the "optimal" route at Navigon. The "optimal route" option (like Navigon) there is unfortunately not. The Garmin option "fastest route" is in our experience not the optimal route.
- The announcements are loud and clear (even when driving).
- The display and map displays are sharp and contrasty.
- The various extra functions we have not tried.
In the autumn we are planning a 5000-km-round trip through five countries, then we know more about the nüvi 3597LMT.
Update on 05/05/2015: We have now tried out the device within a radius of about 70 km around Leipzig and are disappointed. The announcement "stutters" regularly the letter "A", so whenever a highway will be announced ("AA-eight". The shortest route is possibly mercilessly by 30 zones and play streets with stumbling blocks, even if parallel (!) To a normal road runs. The fastest route recognizes (despite Map Update) may not be an existing for years expressway. Yesterday claiming the system stubbornly, the road on which we were two hours before driving on the way there was, locked and wanted us in sight of the A38 motorway (and 10 minutes from goal away) over a gravel-dirt road for reversing force! Update on 06/27/2015: In the meantime we are so driven about 2000km. A tour of Leipzig to the south until shortly before Munich as well as a tour east to Görlitz. All road through the villages. The "avoid highways" and "shortest time" most closely matches the known from Navigon setting "scenic route". We loved this setting anyway via consistently scenic, "green" routes, almost always good road, often narrow (what we want) with little to no traffic. To that extent we are "reconciled" with the part. -
But it happens also unbelievable: When we did not want to go to Görlitz on the German side, but across the border in Poland of Muskau, the Navi offered us a route to that but then, first on a dirt road not passable by car at the end of a desolate village ended (see Photo 2) and secondly, has already returned to the starting point again in a loop (see photo 3) -. Although the route on the roads No. 350 and 351 would have easily led to the goal. That cost us well over an hour driving around useless. Otherwise, we arrived with the nüvi 3597LMT EU always on target. In places where we are familiar with well that route, however, was sometimes absurd - if you are not familiar, you do not realize that.
