What should we expect from reading this book?
The sex scenes are ubiquitous in this book, however, they are not vulgar. I even find that in the first part of the story, the scenes are very sensual, Remy refusing to Brooke but continually trying to kiss her whenever he can.
There is also strong psychological aspects as Remy is bipolar. This is a psychiatric illness that can be serious or not depending on the stage reached. Here Remy is at stage I, the highest. Periods of euphoria, succeed the manic stages during which he becomes crazy and uncontrollable. I did not know this disease and it made me want to do research because I found that some elements of the story were odd. And indeed, some facts are exaggerated: according to her condition, the color of the eyes of Remy changes from blue to almost black (I have found no trace of this phenomenon from my research).
This is above all a nice big love story between a boxer and a young woman whose destiny was broken there 6 years. It's nice to see a man like him to get lost in the maze of love, open to Brooke and love instinctively. I loved the passages where he kisses her for hours, where he licks her neck and shoulder in the manner of a lion. It is touching, simply.
Regarding the writing style, I noticed a lot of spelling errors. The story is written in I and this is Brooke talking. The time used is the present. The writing is not bad but there is a lot of repetition.
The main characters:
- Brooke: young woman about 24 years old, freshly graduated in sports rehabilitation. This is an old running athlete. She hoped to participate in the Olympic games before seriously injured. She never really had any love story because it does not have time for this. She spent her time sentraîner to become the best in his discipline.
- Remy: 26 years of fighter. He was fired for official tournaments have been taken with a fit of violence outside the fighting in the ring. So now fight only in underground tournaments. He is bipolar and was admitted to a psychiatric hospital in his youth. He never received the love of his parents, or anyone else. Remy is lonely and withdrawn. Thanks to Brooke, he manages to open, to let out his feelings for, after all, someone loves him for what he is.
What I think:
I loved this story. I am also reading Volume 2 I chained directly to the end of my reading of the first volume.
It is caught by the story of these two young people. Remy is touching because, despite his fits of violence, it is a good man. Brooke it is vital and I love seeing a man to succumb to this point to the love of a woman. She is his drug, one that manages to calm him when his attacks are the strongest. He will do anything for her, even die if necessary.
Brooke decides to give him a chance and love despite his psychological problem.
What she feels is really well described and we, too, we would have this strong urge to cuddle but disturbed man.
By cons, about writing, I find it a bit limited because of rehearsals and spelling errors. The style is not kept but the story reads very easily. Chapters senchaînent and I struggled to win!
