The Uptemposongs have compared to the previous Stockholm LP productions with more guitar riffs, which witnesses the dynamic hymnal The last time or the peppy-straight We got away, leave both blur the perceived border between pop and rock. Also, unlike previously, since consuming arranged, the ballads are on I Stand Alone: Above all, the beautiful Maybe it what magic that increases in the course of the song to an opulent orchestrated bombast ballad, as the romantic and at the same time powerful I was not the one in duet with Peter Cetera, or the harmonious Are you gonna throw it all away with a great sax solo at the end. The midtempo numbers between slow and fast lying Let it shine, Love in a world gone mad, Little White Secrets and I stand alone feature in a sound garment of keyboard, bass and drums, without ever overproduced or to act spasmodically. The crowning glory has the dream beautiful If You Need Somebody Tonight, a frugal, almost acoustic piano ballad that highlights all Agnetha crystal clear soprano Timme to the fore.
Overall, the album I succeed standalone the perfect balancing act, on the one hand to embody a sound technical development to the previous LPs, but any time is still to be identified as a tailor Agnetha plant to another. Throughout the former ABBA singer is here in top form: In her voice, the song selection and the appearance (for me their best cover and booklet photos at all, with unusual hairstyle). The high level of previous albums Wrap Your Arms Around Me (1983) and Eyes of a Woman (1985) is not only maintained but even exceeded. I stand alone sounded back then in 1988 produced very modern and sounds still fresh, making it Agnetha zeitlosestem and total also best solo album.
That I still stand alone from all albums Agnetha had the least success charts, was due less to the quality of the marketing. The pursued to ABBA times of all journalists crowds and media Agnetha had during her solo career little ambitions, a renewed public permanent presence and therefore interviews and TV appearances to an absolute minimum beschränkt- most consistently in I Stand Alone, which is why the publication of this album outside of Northern Europe barely was perceived. At least in Sweden was I standalone whopping eight weeks number 1 and the biggest selling album of the year, otherwise a global perspective, a wrongly but unfortunately self-inflicted sunken, really excellent pop-rock album from a single source and without weaknesses. A must for fans of melodic, timeless pop music!
