Since I was looking for a CPU cooler, the i5 3570K is my good and especially cool quietly, I finally came up with my budget of just under 40 for a least 120mm radiator on the SHADOW ROCK SLIM. The other models like perhaps by even better cooling performance convince, but these are then simply huge with 50-80 outside my price expectations.
To make it short: I was interested here more volume than a few degrees C ° Unlike other coolers. Still, I was in none of these respects disappointed, on the contrary!
Compatibility:
The Shadow Rock Slim is compatible with all current sockets. Because of the cooler, as the name implies, relatively thin it is covered no RAM slots. It can be screwed in any direction, which makes it incredibly flexible.
Assembly:
As can be seen from pictures on the net, here are some screws are included, you need almost all well. Two other retaining clips for a second fan are included, spare parts, there is not.
A second fan is indeed mounted, but can be no further 135mm radiator reorder (only 120mm or 140mm).
The manual is relatively small and thus perhaps a bit too vague. At one point I had to get makeshift watch a video because I had overlooked a trifle. More about this later.
You can let the motherboard for installation in the housing, and also needs no second person to assemble, which of course is very practical.
Step 1: First you screw the backplate securely to the back of the MBs. The screws then look out on the other side next to the base and are held with a few plastic Klippsern in position.
Step 2: With 4 mini screws you attached the 2 to the base matching the holding frame for the radiator, the radiator itself.
Step 3: 4 thick screws jetz fixed by the holding frame to the radiator with nuts. And here I did not understand the (aforementioned) the next step, because I had not seen that the screws are hollow, and in turn enter a thread in itself. This went from the little manual not apparent.
Step 4: You now sets the cooler with screws in the desired direction on the heruasstehenden screw the backplate (Yes, you can install this fan in any position!). Then you need a screwdriver and begins to rotate one of the rear screws, so they screw it into the thick bolts. Best diagonally, so that the pressure is evenly distributed on the cooling paste. READY
Cooling capacity:
This part will not budge. Since I also own a fan controller, I have connected the fan there and have him run at half revolutions. It is produced by the 135mm fan in idle (idle mode), a temperature of 29 ° C, unübertaktet. (Measured with HWMonitor)
He is so quiet that I did not hear him out. The hard disk is now the loudest part in PC ^^
In the stress test at full fan power (Prime95), the temperature is not above 42 ° C, also unübertaktet. At half the rotational speed does not exceed 45 ° C.
And the only perceptible with a gentle murmur. This fan is inaudible, even with open housing.
Conclusion:
For almost 40 you get a fan that is worth the money. Elegant design, top cooling qualities and even inaudible. When you fixed the radiator properly, you do not need spare parts and usually need not even 2 Fan. Therefore, one can see across over these disadvantages.
Thus, need or want from me a clear recommendation to all who do not want to torment with noisy 92mm fans, and low temperatures.
Pros:
- Many socket compatible
- Be positioned in any direction
- Concealed no RAM slots
- Good cooling performance
- Whisper
- 2. Fan mountable
- Sits securely and firmly by the backplate
- Good quality, attractive design
Cons:
- No 135mm reordered, only 120mm or 140mm!
- No spare parts
- Confusing instructions
