Frankly, I had already written off Interpol after the last two albums. Amid the rippling mediocrity I found only 1-2 pieces really succeeded. On "El Pintor" land Interpol contrast with almost every song a hit. DC in the intro of the first track "All The Rage Back Home" this special atmosphere of the early albums can be felt, which is primarily due to the unique-gloomy harmony vocals and reverb-heavy electric guitar. But then it goes right to the point! Such brisk and punchy played song you have long not heard of the New Yorkers. Could the hit of the year be. The other first side of the LP (through "My Blue Supreme") consists entirely of magnificent, atmospheric pieces that all boast a property: Something will immediately hang in the ear, it was a guitar melody, be it a small line of text in the chorus. These little moments of catchiness make the songs all very strong, so I find it difficult, here a special mention. The second side of the LP is much more demanding and opens up - apart from "Everything Is Wrong" - after a few runs.
Conclusion: A successful return to old strengths. Highly recommended!
