Why? Because the PS4 does not offer any Means of backup at this time and therefore no external HDD to put your content on (I do believe music is possible on external but you can not write it to the internal storage) in internal solution was a must for me, even though I only install gamedata on it and have only bought 1 Digital Game.
And I must say, I just picked this HDD since the original HDD of a PS4 is well performant enough and Seagate what the brand of choice for it's predecessor, the PS3.
So, this HDD is the biggest thatwill fit at the moment of writing and the positive outweigh the negative really:
Positive:
- No performance loss over your old 500GB HDD
- Fits perfectly; no modifications required like for a larger 3.5inch HDD or hybrid SSD / HDD
- 2x the space of the Largest SSD (1GB) ATM
Negative:
- 'Only' 2TB of space; Might be a negative if you want media or a lot of digital games installed
- There might be faster drives out there (SSD with less space) / Hybrid and 3.5 HDD with more space but I have no proof theywill Actually be faster.
Conclusion:
Even though the negative points do not apply to me I've put them there just in case but I want to point out thatthis is -in my humble Opinion- everything I wanted from this product and everything I wanted to improve my experience with the PS4: this HDD is by far the easiest solution to your storage problems and on top it's almost enough and up to this point very reliable.
I would definitely recommend it to anyone who has use for it.
