I've changed my mind until I decided to order the K-3. I changed a long time ago by one of the "2 big" players in the market on the Pentax K-5 because I felt that my then camera brand only reacts on the market and is no longer acting (at least for my needs). Also, I was of the Pentax "Limited" series lens, very pleased, because there is not something (small, high-quality lenses) elsewhere. This was and I am willing to make compromises in point autofocus drive. Pentax lags behind in speed of the competition somewhat. The transition to the K-5 but I have never looked back, but the camera offers Austattungsmerkmale and functions in the same price range are elsewhere not necessarily self-evident: the touch and extremely solid construction, metal housing, shutter sound, stabilizer in the housing, weather protection, exposure programs as Sensitivity Auto and more operate at a given speed / aperture combination, 100% prism finder, eyepiece high, the possibility also older manual lenses So I was now torn whether I should upgrade to the K-3, they bingt but on paper other than the 24MP sensor not so many spectacular innovations. 24MP APS-C format when I see a critical, but the pixel size leads to a beneficial aperture of about 6.4, ie on stopping down aperture 8 also will again lead to a reduction in resolution due to diffraction. But since all the DSLR manufacturers ride on this wave, Pentax was probably out advertising strategic considerations probably not rear pending. Finally, I looked at the K-3 but then bought, even though they obviously do not bring what I wished at the K-5 most: a swiveling monitor. But I thought to myself, if even then now, because on the one hand, the K-3 is already fallen significantly in price, on the other hand I can for my used K-5 still achieve a reasonable price. Repent, I've been buying have not: The K-3 I was particularly impressed by the small improvements that are not advertised so striking as the 24MP sensor: - The monitor is better anti-reflective coating which facilitates much the work in sunlight. - The Focus Peaking in Live View is when working with manual focus a revelation - The two SD slots are super. You can choose how you want to save it (sequentially, in parallel, a card for RAQ, one for JPEG) - The Pentax SD Flucard (accessory) allows finally the remote control of the camera from Tablet / Smartphone - The mode dial is now locked / unlocked, a significant improvement if you do not let the camera when taking pictures from the eye. - Autofocus seems to me indeed become not much faster, but it is very accurate as of the K-5 used (I had been for no lens focus fine correction endeavor). But he seems to have become more accurate, ie, the camera corrects after first setting run scarcely to (what the K-5 made already now and then). Otherwise, the K-3 has inherited all the positive Eigensachaften the K-5, the pictures are up in higher sensitivity areas very naturally and easily editable. The noise filter of the camera engages at higher speeds a very cautious, so that here does not occur often observed watercolor-like image impression sanded with a significantly reduced fine detail. The images are (assuming appropriate lens) in the low ISO levels extremely enlarged and show a high detail (here comes the higher resolution of the sensor to the K-5 to advantage). The concerns about the beneficial Aperture have by the way come true: from about 8 aperture drops the resolution of the images and approaches the results of the K-5 at. But that's a toad, you must swallow these days (unless you buy a A7S). Overall I would recommend the K-3 to anyone who wants a high-quality, extremely robust and exceptionally equipped camera that stands out positively from the mainstream.
