Cherry eVolution STREAM XT Corded MultiMedia Keyboard G85-23100 - Keyboard - PS / 2, USB - 105 keys - ergonomic - black - German (Accessories)

Customer Review

Have just the cherry peeled from its package, which I find frankly poorly designed. To me it was not possible to open the box without damaging them at one point. In a return to what would be annoying.
Package Contents: the chic, black dulcimer with cord, plug adapter for the PS2 and an operating manual.

First impression of Cherry:

- Chic and less rickety than feared (ve already 60 keyboards under the fingers had who felt less)
- Very flat with reasonable key spacing
- The golden yellow LEDs for Num Lock & Co shine through a very narrow slit, but are still clearly visible, not too bright and not too dark
- Weight is excellent for a keyboard in this price range; a heavyweight compared to my age-old Cherry, who is now moved into the cabinet after it has after the last drink and bathroom designed to a pesky own will.
- The fold-out stand are stable, do not shake and snap a bombproof. Because me the flat board could still get a little steeper standing with folded feet, because I was more accustomed to "high" keyboards, I can write with the new Cherry after a short but still great
- Frame is almost a little big, you could design the keyboard even 1-2 centimeters slimmer without having to place even one key differently. On my desk, it has nevertheless prima Place
- The matt black, lightly textured design is really very resistant to stains and ugly fingerprints. Only dust is visible after a short time and is therefore driven 1x a week with the Swiffer. No comparison to the terrible maintenance intensive piano lacquer and therefore also for me as a super shine rather lazy person, because the board is long chic without effort

First write impression:

Positives:
- Does it feel (at least for me) more like a notebook keyboard, so it is flat; unfamiliar, but the first attempts at writing unfolded wonderful what has pleased me because I'm always fully adjusted to "my" keyboard and do me with tapping new or foreign keyboards often very hard (when touch-typing).
- The volume is compared to my old keyboard more pleasant. Yes, even here one naturally hears rattling plastic, but (as it is also mostly used by notebooks) the rattle is rather moderate and dull. At the latest during gaming, watching movies or listening to music with headphones I hear no longer my Gehacke. Totally ok. But whoever typed with (long) nails instead fingerpads, reaping more decibels!
- The keys have of course in their suspension easy game, some less (media keys not, Spacebar Num keys, arrow keys, among other things somewhat), others (Shift, Tab, insert, delete, Windoze button), that would some certainly described as rickety and cheap, me personally cares less now, because I'm used to worse. Sometimes you have the feeling that you have the key while typing in the same hand. I take it now do not negatively. Since the keys are very flat, the risk is rather low that you get stuck and worst tears out a key.
- The pressure point of the spacebar is (as mentioned in other reviews) for Blind Tipper really used to. Who typed primarily with the thumb side, comes in fact to the housing, which may cause the spacebar not always respond (because not pressed deep enough). For myself, not as a problem, I just stumble at times and it can get over. For other blind prediction but probably annoying to intolerable.

Negatives:
- Pressure point of the Media keys slim and none, as far too deep and spongy; not a pleasant feeling of pressure, one notices only when the PC is doing what, whether the key has now addressed or not
- Just the volume up / down buttons fool me again. I press and press and press and it does have felt (and heard) anything. Then I think the key for 1-2 seconds and reach what I want. Since I use the keys rarely (because I sit at 99% with headset on the PC and then my line controls have), I fall purely on it every time anew. Annoying!
- The rest of the keys have a fairly clear pressure point, however, because of their flat design, only a very short "driving path" (as they call the best?). This may encourage accidental activation of keys.

All this is of course a matter of taste. I personally do not like necessarily, but for less than 20 I am looking for a hair in the soup, but do rejoice in what I get in return.
Somewhere under the line is the Cherry definitely not a bad keyboard. For the low-cost sector, in the ranks this keyboard, you definitely get (in my opinion) a lot for his money. The Cherry not do everything right, but not all wrong. I do not regret the purchase and would definitely keep to replace even with a new keyboard.

Update April 2014:

Did the Cherry now for quite a while already in operation and correct my review herewith subsequently around a star down.
Reason: after many Zocksessions and writing I have to say that the keys do not provide the precision that everybody wants but unfortunately. It happens more than just every now and then that the shift key to reacts badly and letters remain involuntarily small and especially the spacebar reacts just partly bad playing, if you are not directly in the center meets with the thumb on the button. Reason is the shaky mounting and the apparently small Rubber Dome. Of course, no Rubber Dome comes ever closer to the precision of a mechanical keyboard, but there are also models here who have a clear and reliable präzieres response.
BUT: the problem I had so far at any of my keyboards, regardless of the price range! Although it comes in Cherry (felt) significantly more often than in luxury Hack boards, but if it once more or less often happens, saved me from the proofreading in any of my work, so far nothing has changed for me.
My impression is that the Shift key bad after all these months responding than at the beginning, but everything is for me under and no reason to fret.

Meanwhile, Cherry had the first fatal accident liquid: a glass of orange juice. In addition to a giant mess beinaher a total failure of some buttons was the result. Under each key in fact is a small rubber nipple, which pushes the button after you press back up. It is this, among others, were at the spacebar so glued from fructose that the key only in slow motion "came up" and also brute force needed to push.
I thought that it might have been with my 20 euros, then I have to decide but the keyboard Just disassemble and move the glued buttons on the collar.
The Cherry consists of 3 parts (frame top, frame bottom and the actual keyboard), which are surprisingly well screwed total of more than 30 (!) Screws, I had to include at the end, because I did not believe it but can easily take apart ,
I then cleaned the keyboard element minutes with a powerful jet of water (except the top, where there is a small board of the keyboard) and then blow-dried thoroughly dry.
Lo and behold, there was a renewed connect the AHA -experience and all keys again went smoothly as the first day!.
So it's true that the keyboard is relatively insensitive to liquid baths. Water dries anyway without residue within a few hours, but even after a limonene or Saftbad the keyboard does not have to be lost if the keys stick of sugar. Just as I can clean the keyboard thoroughly under running water and dry. Only the upper left corner, where the LEDs are sitting and thus the board, the keyboard should be bathed perhaps not necessarily.

Conclusion: what is the precision of the keystroke, I prefer the Cherry now a star off, otherwise they convinced so far but with their robustness and is through all that rubber and plastic very easy to clean. The screw is a pleasant surprise for such a price range.
I'll stay here after like the keyboard to make a recommendation. But who buys for 20, can not and should not expect quality five times the price! It is a low-key, but for the performance offered were also 30 nor fair.

PS: Cherry is finally an honest manufacturer that does not "Made in Germany" stamped on his product, although maybe just a little screw was actually tightened in Germany, but writes only fair, "Designed in Germany" on the dulcimer. So much honesty of a manufacturer deserves sometimes a recognition. ;)
