Packaging and delivery:
The system is delivered solid and clearly packaged. It includes the device itself, a charger with USB cable, a mount for the handlebar (fixing with cable ties) and a small manual.
Mechanical characteristics:
The unit makes a solid and robust. The configuration is well thought out. The device is screwed into a holding shell, which is in turn connected by means of a spring lock to the mounting on the handlebar. It is easy to insert and remove it again, still sits firmly in the holder, and also does not jump out on bumpy roads.
Electrical Connections:
Data synchronization with the PC, as well as charging via the device's own USB interface, which is hidden under a rubber lip. In addition to the USB interface, there is a slot for a micro SD memory card. Accessible these connections only if the device is removed from the cup holder, but this is not complicated: The retaining screw has a ring that can be summed up well and turn.
Commissioning:
It's recommended to install the latest updates prior to commissioning. This requires that you register the product and this in turn set up an account on the manufacturer's website. Unfortunately you need for the recommended update necessarily a micro SD memory card, and you may get from this site. There is no case. In addition, you should definitely download the detailed user guide (pdf), because with the Quick Start Guide will not get you far, let alone that one sees through the extensive possibilities of TEASI per.
Touch screen and display:
The device is equipped with a touchscreen. This works especially when you want to move the map display, only halfway reliable. When planning a route you need a lot of tact. Fortunately, there is a button with which one can make unwanted steps reversed. Alternatively you can enter the destination data alphanumeric over the menu, but then not so many ways to decide where it should go long. After all, you always get proposed three routes to choose from for each profile (touring bike, MTB, racing bike, pedestrian): a proposal (= recommended distance), simple (= less strenuous) and a short. The display is limited while driving read: too little work, especially for older users, reflections on the screen. To keep at least one track even while driving, I have turned off the power saving mode and let the display constantly working with lighting.
Maps:
The cards are produced from the project OpenStreetMap (OSM), a nonprofit organization, and are freely available. This guarantees hopefully that date maps will continue to be free to move in.
Menu navigation and representation:
The menu system is functional, but not very intuitive, and secure reading while driving you have to practice. Nevertheless, the device as a bicycle or pedestrian-Navi works convincingly. Can be planned trips to destinations - either through selected points on the map, on address entry, given POI (Points of Interest = called worthwhile goals) or coordinates. If you do not need the map display, you can display various other parameters of your choice: current speed, average speed, distance traveled, etc.
The real strength of TEASI Pro lies in its functions as an exercise aid in cycling because it supports different training variants (on journey length, tempo, intensity z. B.). In addition, you can connect via Bluetooth heart rate belt with additional sensors as a sensor for monitoring pulse and a cadence sensor.
Satellite reception:
The built-in antenna receives the signals rapidly and synchronized accordingly. This even works from the windows in rooms about six feet.
Energy consumption:
How long does the battery really, I could not even notice. So far I have the unit up to two hours at a time used in continuous lighting. There were no problems. Unfortunately, the battery is permanently installed and can not be replaced.
Systemtechnik:
It is an embedded Microsoft Windows system. A little surprising, since the manufacturers support the OpenStreetMap project. Because I would rather embedded Linux or BSD variant expected. The user may be the matter, however.
Conclusion: The machine offers a good price-performance ratio. It requires a certain learning curve to use it sensibly. Users who want to use it as a car navigation system, could be disappointed. For the more ambitious cyclists or cyclists, it is a very useful tool that not only helps you navigate, but also makes an additional bike computer unnecessarily.
If the touch screen would be easier to use and the internal memory is not from the outset so full that the only recommended update with additional MicroSD is possible, it deserves a full five stars. So there are "only" four.
