More easing is expected in these parts for the harmonic richness of Brahmsian parts to unfold generously. This is where lies precisely lyricism in Brahms. Exercise is all the more delicate to be retained a fairly clear outline of the various reasons that are juxtaposed. It is undeniably a challenge that very few pianists have successfully addressed (but not totally) (Julius Katchen, Peter Rösel Glenn Gould).
The Brahms Murray Perahia is right, bossy, imperturbable, but not haughty moves us one second. This is therefore the problem is. We are in a period before any piano, more than a narrative reading, which could have committed us to travel to many meanders that, though, Brahms offers us many times (the pictures of the disc and the booklet also betray this approach: a Murray Perahia in a destitute environment, studio-type atmosphere, just to make us understand that we are not there to be distracted ...).
