The Man Who (Audio CD)

Customer Review

(Radiohead minus Psychedelic & SciFi stuff) plus (minus Oasis arrogance) plus (lots of charm and melancholy) = Travis. That would describe the perfect formula to this band. The Man Who is the second album of four Scots, in contrast to the widely neglected debut suggests giant waves of enthusiasm. The Rolling Stone magazine named the album even for record of the year. And rightly so. Travis play over only ten songs a universe cope. Warm and simultaneously sad minor chords provided on a semi-acoustic guitar with a melancholy text and Fran Healy's magnificent voice that sounds very much like Radiohead, but still is not a copy. The music creates a very independent, warm atmosphere like in an English pub late at night. The disc begins with a very strong song 'Writing to reach you' which sounds a bit like Oasis, and fits to Fran also sings the text line 'What's a Wonderwall anyway?' probably all from the heart speaks to us. The slow song 'As You Are' is, like all songs a sad ballad, which is, however, accompanied here with many pianos. Is 'Driftwood', the second single of only a little faster and a little more cheerful track on the disk. To die sad and quiet melancholy turn are 'The Last Laugh of the Laughter' and 'Luv', as well as the well-known first single and now band hymn 'Why does it always rain on me?'. And so it goes on. Ten grand, beautiful Komposititonen that you both listen very intensively, and can easily use it only as background music, not quite as sophisticated as Radiohead and perfect for slow asleep at night or early in the morning after waking. A disk that you can enjoy both to the fullest and on any occasion, or with which one can cry for hours on a bad day as having little other. With Oasis, which are meanwhile totally lifted, and on the shoulders of its giant stand, placebo which bring nothing new, and The Verve, which no longer exist, this band could use the opportunity and soon perhaps to the main strip of the island in the field of pop / rock belong. As Fran at his concerts says: It's the song, not the band. And songs the guys. Very strong songs. Who has never heard of the plate, should head quickly to buy them. Albums come in this day and age like this before only very rarely. Masterpiece that deserved five points.
