Actually I wanted to buy a pen until I came across in the local retail on this device for less than 100 euros. Scanner and printer in a ... well, a copier that works without a computer ... and then also with laser printing (ink printer come to me for some time no longer in the house) ... I could not resist ... and it it was worth it.
On the technical details I would like to not really respond, because you can read on the home page of Brother. it is therefore a short and subjective reporting.
It is a multifunction device, which for just such has the appropriate dimensions of approximately T39 B43 H26 cm and thus may not fit on your desk, but is otherwise well accommodate. The device acts otherwise ... compact printers and scanners seem almost seamlessly connected. Furthermore, it is well made, but it's just not metal ... to say: even in a solid device in itself, there is the one or other filigree part, which should be carefully operated. To view the parts that are öffter operated, but one need not have to worry. The keys are sufficient for the functionality, easy to operate and sensibly arranged. The display has 2 lines of 16 characters, adjust the contrast here, but has no lighting. Keys and display in combination facilitate intuitive operation of the device, even without instructions. Further, the case has: Power supply, USB2 port, enclosed paper tray for 250 sheets, manual feed tray, output tray and the front output tray at the back (for media to be just solid).
Commissioning is simple, everything you need is included, except for a USB cable. In a sealed case is the combination of drum and toner. Here, combination is rather changing combination, because the toner segment can be easily separated from the drum segment, and replace it with a new toner segment. The drum is designed for approximately 12,000 pages, the supplied toner for about 1,000 pages, the replacement toner is available in versions 1500 and 2600 pages. There are also matching toner by manufacturers other than Brother. The prices for toner, which I saw today for 2600 pages version, are between 30 and 70 euros, depending on what and where you shop. What can I say .... For this price range absolutely fast and without blemish in the image and typeface However, I have until now only prints on standard paper output, not on transparencies, labels or envelopes.
Scanner
=======
The scanner is absolutely sufficient for the SOHO area. People who want to scan photos but on top quality fashion are sure better off with a different product, because resolution, color depth and the possibilities of the scan software are not designed for. Is it possible to scan 100 pages in 10 minutes? Maybe, but it this device is missing stop at a document feeder. Otherwise, the scanning speed is appropriate.
COPIER
========
The copier is fix, works without angeschhlossenen computer, offers even without a computer many functions (number of copies up to 99, contrast, quality, Größenanpasung multiple pages on one sheet, one page on multiple sheets). Has never been so easy to copy at home :-)
Software and drivers
====================
Printer and scanner drivers offer anything that can be called in this price range and for the SOHO area already as well (tested on Vista and XP). However, there are no PCL or PostScript emulations available. Included is a license for PaperPort 11SE.
