STORY
Eliza Havens and Carter Billings known each other since the marriage of her best friends Samantha Elliot and Blake Harrison (from Part 1). That there is a certain tension and attraction between them, both of which can not be denied, even if no one dares say it out loud from both. Instead, this voltage is discharged in war of words. Through a silly mishap Eliza gets Carter's campaign for governor thorough shake and he now needs a wily tactics to rise again in the polls. This is indeed willing to extricate him from his predicament, but want to get married and can it under any circumstances. A deeply buried secret from her past threatens to come back into the light and Eliza can not risk another implicate since with.
CHARACTERS
I arrived the people not only very realistic before, but were very sympathetic to me from the very beginning. Especially Carter I really liked. Obowhl I am rather less on blonde men has me here not the least bit bothered. But on the contrary. It was his character just adds to its charm. On the one hand naughty and a bit childish, on the other hand, very serious and success-oriented. He sits down something in his head, it feeds by one hundred percent. What I particularly liked here was that the two did not have to fall in love only each other. They were already there, just wanted to say that neither of them really. Carter had already previously aware of his feelings, but always keep it to themselves for fear of Eliza thereby only to frighten. Yet he never gave up, but consistently pursued its way and solutions sought to steer Eliza in his direction and to convince them to make the right decision, you should opt for it. The necessary marriage, Eliza should address this because he wanted to take a "step in the right direction" and hoped that this will virtually find everything on its own. Carter has never wavered in his decision regarding Eliza or was unsure about her. I thought that was especially good because it was not time this eternal back and forth between the two main protagonists, because Eliza draws at the end of a faster than they block out everything. It is initially very aligned oriented and runs like them from their problems. Be it that from their past or their feelings in general. By Carter and her other friends they bring but the courage to face up to all and is gaining gradually in strength. She begins to trust others. I'm still very fond of, and there were hardly places where I found her annoying person. Bybee has since still just get the curve when it's slipped times in a perverse direction.
The supporting characters have hardly stood out, what has me but not disturbed. They have always somehow together perfectly in the action and the "picture" is completed.
PLOT / STYLE
At first I was afraid that Bybee repeated her idea of marriage in Part 1 here. But my worry was for nothing. She has managed to bring a strange contracted marriage in the act that still somehow seems logical, but yet again very different than that which existed in the first book. In general, the story is much more intertwined, more exciting, a bit gloomy and Bybee is a more on details, which was not the case in the first part. Only has me a bit disturbed, but now I think it's actually quite well done. So you have yet more insight into both parties and can understand their actions. I also found the topic interesting, where you indeed can not really talk of "theme". Flow to leave politics in a story that is not always easy. Here it is rather to be regarded as a secondary aspect and therefore not really to put weight on it. Nevertheless, I am of the opinion that it forms part of the charm of Carter Billings. He has no time Hollywood star (even if he is often referred to as), at issue here. Even though has still not changed much when it comes to luxury, power and intrigue.
What I also like better than in Bybee's Not Quite series, is that not all acquaintances and relatives of the heart are well here, but that there are black sheep in the family. Black sheep with a lot of influence, and black sheep who have gone down the wrong path in their lives.
Set Technically, I have to say I had my difficulties from time to time, because it was not always clear to what room you are in or who is thinking since / speaks. That was very irritating because I then had previous still time to better understand the different chapters /.
CONCLUSION
Overall, a worthy successor, who is on a par in terms of story, tension, emotions and eroticism with its predecessor and this in no way inferior. And even if the final end was more harmless than I had initially expected and I would have liked to hire (here comes then but the little sadist in me out), so it was still the story adapted and "fitted in";)
