Just simply:
1 - download and install the Game Capture HD software (not supplied on CD)
2 - connect the small camera to capture our facilities: TV, computer and console.
If the software CD is not provided, the manufacturer has still added a lot of cables in the box:
- A USB cable to connect the capture device to the PC;
- An HDMI cable to connect the capture device to the TV;
- A special cable to connect the capture device (via its AV port) to a PS3;
- Another cable to connect the capture device to a source with a component video output with analog audio (eg a Wii or PS2 equipped with cable YUV).
In short, assuming that the public concerned has an internet connection, then actually we can assume that the user has what it takes to work.
If the installation does not require any special technical knowledge, it is the same for the use of the device that allows two things:
- The capture of game sessions, with the necessary ability to record audio commentary simultaneously;
- Assembly operations and export crude.
Regarding the capture videos are fluid, with a very good image quality (I work mainly for the PS3 in 720p and 480p for the Wii), and file size is reasonable. In fact there is not much to say, except that the camera does the job we ask him and he does it well.
The capture of a parallel audio commentary (and simultaneously) is also successful, with proper adjustment of the sound (the game) and voice (the commentator).
For assembling, the software allows to do simple things, like prune unnecessary parts and export to sites like Youtube.
This remains basic but it allows for a first working efficient cleaning. This gives a first own base, which can possibly tinkering with a more complete software like Premiere Elements 10.
In a sense, that's what we were entitled to expect, and personally it suits me very well.
In fact the only thing I regret is the inability to capture, via HDMI, 1080p from a PS3.
Unfortunately, it is a constraint to the protections of the console (including HDMI output is protected with HDCP)
However, one can work in 720p or 1080i (via cable "playstation" included), which is more than adequate for export to Youtube.
The cons, you will find some examples of gaming sessions (PS3) captured in 720p: Uncharted 2: among thieves, Wipeout HD, Flower (PSN) and Trine 2 (PSN). Final assembly was done with Adobe Premiere Elements.
Finally, note that it is not always possible to capture video from a device running Android.
Some manufacturers are more "open" and not restricted their HDMI port (except for playback of protected videos).
But other manufacturers enable constant HDCP protection, which prevents the capture from HDMI and MHL adapters (Samsung Galaxy S3 and S4, for example).
