I want to talk about the debut novel of Chris Colfer, 'The Land of Stories', today. I was really really curious how his first novel would turn out. So I pre-ordered it. So I watched his live chat on the website of his publisher. It was sweet to see how nervous he gets quiet. Unfortunately I did not get the chance to ask him something personally :( But it was interesting none the less.
Now to the novel itself. I / love / the cover picture. It is vibrant and beautiful, just like Chris himself. I will try to talk about the story without it spoilering For Those of you who have not read or are reading it silently:
The novel tells the story of Alex and Conner Bailey who are going through a tough time after Their fathers sudden death. On Their Birthday Their grandmother visits them and gives the twins her treasured fairy tale book, 'The Land of Stories'. It does not take long until Alex Conner and end up inside the world of the book, right in the heart of all the stories Both of them, Especially Alex, love so much. Now theyhave to find a way back home. Their only chance is something called the 'Wishing Spell'. They have to travel through the whole fairy tale world and collect different items on the most important and biggest Scavenger Hunt of Their Lives. Along the way They meet all the persons and creatures They only heard of until now and realize That All Those stories never ended after the 'And They lived happy ever after'. Quite the contrary. And They discover a lot about themselfes.
I will not tell anymore about the story itself. If you are curious now (and I hope you are!), You Should Buy the novel. Believe me, it sure is worth it !!
Chris Colfer's writing style is beautiful and pulls you into the wonderful story Directly. He has to Certain way of telling this story, That I can not describe and his way to interpret the stories, what happened to the characters afterwards and give everything a whole new point of view is fascinating. I get the impression That Everyword he wrote came right from his heart. He Manages to describe That fairy tale world so lively and vibrant, I did Basically saw the twins on Their Journey Through it right before my eyes the whole time. It reminds me of JK Rowling's first Harry Potter novel, 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone', to be honest. And I can fully understand and agree That a lot of people say he did Could be the JK Rowling for the next generation. And the factthat his novel what # 1 on the New York Times bestseller's list right away and keeps it's position for the second week now is not Surprising at all.
All in all: WELL DONE, CHRIS! I am really impressed just how talented you are. Can not wait for the second part of That wonderful story :)
And with Those Words, I say 'Bye!' for now!
