Since I own some expertise in security printing technology, I can for people who want to play it safe, would recommend to leave these pins the finger! These pins can namely not recognize some fakes! For this short explanation: In cotton-based banknote paper, the strength is lacking. The color of the pins reacts with the starch, such as contained in, for example, in commercial paper, and thus recognizes based on which the counterfeit. Unfortunately, it is possible good forgers since 2005 the strength of their flowers molecular binding so that it no longer reacts with the color of the pen. Here the pen so falsely attested the authenticity of this certificate. For those who really want to play it safe, I would recommend either briefly to consult the website of the Bundesbank on the security features, or even better to get yourself one of the automatic devices (from 60EUR). These devices provide unequivocally sure whether a note is real or not. Yet finally: Checks best all bills !! The small are a lot more fake than the big bills.
