Customer Review

First of all: From Windows Mobile coming from Symbian thrilled striped iPhone and now stuck with Android, it was for me of careers now even have time to get to know Windows Phone 8.1. A tablet with Windows 8.1, I have for this very purpose also, as a Lumia complements quite well. Thus, I was sure from the beginning that I've bought there.

Whoever buys a device, either with Windows Phone or Android, buys a pocket computer and not a mobile phone with added value. That should be clear to everyone. Therefore, it makes little sense to compare the Lumia with Samsung or an iPhone, for all operating systems are fundamentally different and it would take too long to list all the pros and cons. However short the strategy of Microsoft, everything should look as identical as possible. Therefore, the surface is more like a Windows PC, as a smartphone competitor operating systems.

Those who opt for Windows Phone 8.1, currently expected to find no other smartphone with LTE on the market, which is similarly favorable. The Moto G would the next highest with Android, a quasi direct competitor. In this price range, processing of plastic, polycarbonate accurately is appropriate. Nokia as the inventor of the alternating-Covers (now Microsoft Mobile) has been able to consistently continue this trend and to improve.

Those like me who knows almost every Nokia device series and also the packing cycles of recent years, still remembers the more US paper nice ecologically-looking cardboard the design line in recent years, even the N8 was so packed. - Far from here would not only present in the Öko-Trend is located. So the smart phone comes in a slipcase Art, the front is glossy printed with color-coordinated appliances Photo, the device is in a bag at a slight angle and visually striking in its packaging. In addition, a leaflet, a battery and a charger with non-removable USB cable. Too bad, so you have to take care of a suitable micro-USB cable itself. Even a headset in vain, that was the predecessor model Lumia 625 or otherwise. This data cable CA-189cd and Headset BH-108 are included. That might even get over, but that has also painted the front camera, leads smoothly into a star deduction.

The smartphone itself is directly connected to a corresponding color designed cover CC-3079th This is contrary to the original black battery cover slightly curved and highly polished, as well as a bit more volume. What irritates me is reading all the information on the net that many were probably disappointed by the shiny cover and have the matte cover expected. The matte cover I know only as a black version, which compared to the brilliant touches of high quality and also seems to be quite insensitive to scratches. From the dimensions of both cover versions are absolutely identical. The smartphone itself is in this Cover flush like in a bathtub, it is virtually enclosed by the edge and would suffer only optical damage on the display side. On the edge towards the center the cover is curved. This is also advantageous since the smartphone thus can not rest on the lower-side speaker aperture and this is thus not covered. The color, in my case, light green, are chic and neon-like garish, this may not necessarily please everyone. Overall, the device is seated rather firmly in the cover, as creaks and cracks nothing, can not even. By changing battery - and one knows Nokia Akkuplege - should you still get a spare battery for years. The quality of the display has surprised me. While it is not a full HD display, but it has a quite good contrast. I do not know that it works with backlit IPS technology, I would have thought almost a Super AMOLED behind. The display is protected by Gorilla Glass glass 3, thus does not necessarily have a protective film. The is also inappropriate sensibly, which avoids additional waste. The mono speaker on the bottom sounds strong and clear, is, therefore, not particularly bad or good. The phone quality, however, is positive convincingly almost noise-free and dynamic.

After switching to Windows Phone 8.1 presents, the initial setup is quick of hand. Who's computer experience, should have no problems here. Who will change from a standard cell phone, again: There is a pocket computer! After setting also already show the peculiarities of the localized version for Germany, because some apps are preinstalled. DB Navigator, n-tv news, Facebook and much more, the store is also a selection of additional Nokia applications. Incidentally, the manufacturers of these apps Microsoft Mobile, of course, logical and consistent. Not quite logically appear that you create a Nokia account for the integrated navigation Here Maps or must log on with this, as long as you have a of earlier still. When creating a new account is later from the PC and the ability to create an Ovi Mail account. Miraculously, especially as Nokia has the Ovi brand but stored. The Nokia account can also be quickly set up on the previously created Microsoft account, so that already all data is taken from the MS profile. After completing the initial setup, then shows the tile surface in typical Windows-style. A wiper to the left goes to the apps in the settings to find the configuration points. Strange to change or disable the SIM PIN, you go by the Modern UI (home screen) in the phone, click the bottom right of the points and then click Settings. Here you can specify sensitive settings. The phone. A general point security, as we know it from Android, there is no such. Note also that the device brings comparatively meager 512 MB of RAM. But that is enough for everyday wear, stuttering or like I could not make out. Sure, in powerful games could be a problem or load times take a little longer, but here the processor Snapdragon also 400 should come somewhere on its border. After all, can be of the 8 GB of memory, of which only just under 4 are available, the apps necessary to outsource on the microSD card, this can be up to 128 GB in size. Strange is the way that the formatted by me in the Lumia 635 64GB microSD card is not recognized under Windows, so obviously a special data format is selected. Maybe it makes sense to first format the card in the PC and to hope that the phone is not surrounded the partition. What exactly happened there, I could not make out in a hurry. Connected via USB cable, the data can be transported but also to the USB card, albeit with USB 2.0 some leisurely.

Otherwise, Windows Phone 8.1 has also little in common with his colleagues. It's more Windows, where the former Symbian Belle users clear is why Nokia has replaced the Back to the Menu soft key and the design. Thus, the surface looks already like, as they are known by Symbian in terms of at least one of the icons. From the Operation view, it is something completely independent, but with a little practice you will find your way around. There is also less chance of getting lost because everything is clearly structured: tiles, apps list, search, settings and information bar. Diving below settings, you can sweep up these purely upwards. In addition to training / Power key and mandatory volume rocker, there are no keys, the Windows key is part of the touch screen, with its left the back and right of it is the search button. The presentation is, comparing with Android, and partly also with the iPhone, phenomenally well and can also exacerbate. Incidentally it should be noted that visually impaired users can optimize the screen display, the Narrator voice is currently only available to US customers (as of August 2014). Otherwise, for wearers and other limitations, Microsoft shows but cooperative here. One can only hope that blind people could operate through the use of the Narrator the phone in the future.

When the camera function the phone is on par with similar competitors. Not particularly good, but also not too bad. It is incomprehensible why Nokia has the LED flash and the front camera is deleted, even though Skype, the front camera has yet allowed a Microsoft product video telephony and always found in other entry-level models. Even sound quality, battery life and of course at a good level, a noise suppression and also HD Voice should be able to (though I could not try). Anyone interested in this phone, even a glance at the identical models Nokia should throw 630 single and dual SIM. This does not have LTE, but it also a lot cheaper. The Nokia Lumia 635 there is only a single SIM variant.

Conclusion: Despite massive market slump Nokia understands it remains to produce solid and appealing devices. The hardware was except for the entry-level models to date always first class and also partly Apple level. With the Lumia 630 and 635, however, you get units at a price, for you got three years ago, a Nokia 5230 or C5-00. Although these phones were well without doubt, one is not bad amazed that you can now receive a quality that you previously knew only from the NSeries or ESeries ago. That, of course, the hardware above which is what even the flagships few years ago, could also be understood. Those looking for a low-priced LTE smartphone, can not ignore the Nokia Lumia 635, when Windows Phone 8.1 is an issue. Microsoft is likely to collect far less data than it does Google. Will you still Android, would EDAS Moto G is an interesting alternative, which is however also a bit more expensive.

Even a final remark on the Apps: While Android and iOS (iPhone) knows that some apps but look quite similar, should we be surprised that the programmers on Windows Phone 8.1 does not always tie in with this style. Much more, the basic design of Windows is preserved, what has struck me at the DB Navigator very positive. It remains to be seen whether these price offensive Microsoft is sufficient to inspire more buyers of Windows Phone. The quality of the equipment and the operating system to vote anyway.
