Cheapest graduated filter with moderate optical quality.

The Cokin graduated filters are certainly the most affordable entry into the world of Grauverlauffilter. In addition to a polarizing filter and a neutral density filter these graduated filters are certainly the most important filters for a serious nature photographers. Because there are often only those filters the last kick. To try out the Cokin filters are quite alright to more but also not. Because unfortunately these filters have a very serious disadvantage. Depending on light conditions, the Cokin filter produce a more or less intense magenta tint. This sometimes looks really great, but it is also sometimes completely wrong.
I have the 121P, 121S, 120P. In all, this effect occurs. But there are also situations in which no color cast is recognizable. So, unfortunately, very unpredictable. But in combination with an ND filter, the images are often completely useless.

The only problem is that this magenta tint can be removed only with great difficulty by image processing. Unfortunately, the alternatives to the Cokin system are extremely expensive. A corresponding system of Lee is about 10x more expensive, but then does not provide the above-mentioned disadvantages. So whom a neutral color rendition is important, which should make a big circle around this Cokin filter, otherwise frustration is inevitable.

Lee filters are also difficult to obtain. My tip (I know, does not really belong in this review ...): House Lensing filter holder for about 150, - and then the filters that you need (per filter about 100, -). The filter can be ordered very well at Amazon.co.uk, as these get in Germany barely and then are even more expensive. The next alternative is Singh-Ray, but they are more expensive and do not get in Germany.

Hitech filters are high between Cokin and Lee, are still affordable, but now and then also produce the above magenta cast, but which is not as pronounced as in Cokin ...
