Since I have yet to mention completely forgot the speakers. See more at "negative" below.
Since it is now - the new Acer Chromebook 13 with the new Tegra SoC K1. Ever since the Nvidia Tegra 3 delivers the mobile Porzessor area always very good performance and super current technology. My experience with the Tegra processors refer to tablets (Tegra 2 & 3), the Ouya console (Tegra 3), the Mad Catz Mojo Android TV Box (Tegra 4) and the Nvidia Shield Handheld (Tegra 4).
So far, the Tegra processors were not suitable due to the high power consumption of smart phones. Well, listen up now a bit much, it's not actually. But say for small smartphones, which are to persevere with moderate use at least one day, just not suitable. But I see Nvidia SoCs anyway, next to the tablet insert (and space for larger battery), rather in TV boxes or netbooks - what one Chromebooks yes can also count.
I refer to the version with 2GB of RAM, which I now have three weeks in use. Although I would have liked to buy the 4GB version, but this today (10.13.2014) is not available.
Packing:
For purchase online rather unimportant because no shoppers to people can be lured on the packaging, but still: beautiful stylish decorated in white with product image and Chromebook- & Acer logo. I like it very much.
Positives:
- Processing, I find as a success. White plastic envelops the technology of the Acer Chromebook 13 very valuable. The keyboard is very good, though the pressure points of the buttons could be a bit stronger
- Of course, the performance must be emphasized. Tegra K1 speaks here, even with only 2GB of RAM, a clear language. Videos in 1080p can be played without problems. Even in 1440p (YouTube video) can still play back videos. In 2160p, or even 4K Ultra HD or called, pushes the Chromebook to its limits even though the Tegra K1 actually can. This is to get over at a price of 299 euros and hardly spread 4K monitors or TVs course
- The handling of the Chromebook I also succeeded after a short period. The keyboard is almost as with normal keyboards - but has not by a few keys, I'll call Chromebooks-buttons have been replaced. All this, and the control over the touchpad blends super into the overall picture. I'm the notebooks and netbooks rather averse, but here the comfort and simplicity can not be denied
- Due to the Tegra K1, ie a mobile processor, this does not have a fan. He does not have, he is under load at most times warm, on a scale of running hot, warm or hot. Thus, the Chromebook is whisper quiet. Nonsense, it is inaudible! Even grandma makes one floor down from your bowel movements more noticeable to me sounds as the Chromebook.
- We come to the battery. This is a little longer (and also a little on the topic over). Normally, this would point to the positive list are at the top, but to follow a certain sequence, it does not start with the battery - unless this would be extremely positioned with 50 hours. But is not he, he holds by only 13 to 14 hours - and that is of course still a very considerable value. Not to say that is a value that is me staying with a Chromebook, but also in any laptop so far. The manufacturer's instructions so you can in good conscience believe. I myself was the first use of the Acer 13 and extremely impressed the battery! I count myself more likely to be heavy users - you mean when I say, the part holding under load at least nine hours through, then that's that. For comparison: Who is looking for a smartphone, will be here to read a couple of reviews on Amazon. Many devices I tested the battery just was not enough, even though several reviews claiming the opposite. This is simply the user behavior of the people, to say positive to say. To put it negatively to indicate: People always want to have the best hardware in a smartphone - preferably a Snapdragon 805 and at least 2 GB Ram. But what is then done with the smartphone, is, I think, really ridiculous. Since then a high-end smartphone is needed only for Facebook and WhatsApp - also titled like at said user group times as Whats up. Or who knows it yet? People who say that they can use it to work well? Working? For real? With nem Smartphone? And then it will be played only quiz duel ... I think the reader of this review know what I'm getting. Again short: If I get a new smartphone, it is several times tried by me at the beginning to the very end (for me as interested in technology that's just a new toy). And it can then be very well deduce what a battery has it, even more so when after a few charging cycles the full capacity is reached. So I do not write that it keeps for 3 days. That would certainly over medium usage. Or at Little use for much longer. Now all this is not meaningful. So there is only one promise: 9 hours keeps the part with intensive use of.
Neutral:
- Unfortunately, I have to mention here the screen. For this is said, which is not at the 720p (HD Ready). A 1080p screen would not be better. I belong to the faction that says in smartphones, even 720p is on beeen 5 inch screen too much because you can hardly see a difference to the next lower resolution. What you can see, is that Scripture always small and the battery is being sucked dry faster. In times where it is believed (or was?) That 1080p make sense only when more than 32 inches devices, here are the 720p at this 13 inch Chromebook sufficient. Against less good is the display technology. As has been saved. Normally I am happy with mid-table Bilschirmen if you are entitled by others, also because of the lack of Full HD resolution so. When Acer Chromebook 13 the screen is unfortunately really only average. First I had estimated it as good to very good. But if you have an incorrect viewing angle, then the black is displayed in the image either jet black or as a kind of bright, vivid black. The best way to the moor for a layman with reference to an X-ray image. As I said, I'm not sooo sophisticated, and where others write that this is only average, I think it's mostly still very good. When Acer 13 I can not just, even if it is dependent on the viewing angle, awarded the grade of 3. Too bad.
Negatives:
- Actually more of a neutral point: The loudspeakers. Or rather, their position (under the unit). The sound is not so bad - bad it is only when the speakers are hidden. And this is happening sooner or later. Especially when you consider how space-saving is a mobile processor, the speakers would certainly still somewhere found loose in the housing space. But the thing is done by many notebooks (to accommodate the technology but much more incl. Drive).
Other:
It offered (available 22 GB) 100 GB free Google Drive storage to the existing 32GB. That's good and very commendable. Unfortunately, these 100 GB not use if you should have like this one believed me, or is still running in my case, such a similar action on. So, even if it should be advertised, not on any Google account these 100 GB are applicable. This problem can be if you want to specify a second Google Account.
Those who are not so sure if the Acer 13, or generally a Chromebook, for it is the right, just believe me: Whats Up For users this is the case. Although this would complain about the lack of app selection. Also for the students next door or normal user is a Chromebook certainly interesting, precisely because there are also many apps and extensions, a make life easier. While not as like a Windows system, do not even begin, but the selection is ok. The best look before buying time in the Chrome store. For people who really want to work with a notebook, a Chromebook is certainly nothing, or only partially usable.
Self is the man or the woman
On older Chromebooks to Linux was fairly easy to install. Thus, the "netbook with Google's operating system" were then still interesting for some people - but so that the increased functionality almost to the level of a Windows operating system. Currently this can be but to say yes, you can install Linux, but do not really use as you would like it. The problem is that the Linux for older Chromebooks are based on Intel processors, which were mostly built. Therefore, these versions are also adjusted only on Intel. But I am sure that in the future there, especially because of the powerful Tegra K1, something will come. I
Android Apps install on a Chromebook:
Read that right, Android Apps. I simply me the Apps from Android installed that were not offered to me in the Chrome store. That would be: Quiz Duel, livescore (Fussballergerbnisse), Trillian (also known by the PC, Multi-Messenger, among others with ICQ, Hangouts, etc) and Pyramid Solitaire Saga. Exactly - Pyramid Saga from developer King. Or also known as poorly developed game apps that the battery runs out quickly suck super (Farm Heroes Saga, Candy Crush Saga, etc).
Although the Android method is not yet mature and also not an official feature, but is always evolving. Perhaps the last paragraph has indeed one or the other to move, a Chromebook yet shortlisted to carry. If you still have questions, you are welcome to ask in the comments.
