For the technical side: The appearance makes an excellent impression processed, even if the housing is made of plastic. It shakes and rattles nothing, unlike some previous Niko lenses with plastic housing. The AF is not very fast, but that makes the connection with high light intensity for an excellent setting accuracy of AF, given the razor-thin zone sharpness at maximum aperture. Compared to my by the feel beautiful (metal case!) And in the central aperture range razor-sharp 1.4 / 50 AiS is the new G lens with aperture 1.4 and 2 head and shoulders. The latter can be safely used in pictorial subjects with open aperture (for the photographing of "newspaper pages" is the 2.8 / 60 Micro responsible). Also, the multiple read reviews in comparison with the fainter AF 1.8 / 50 (D) is unhappy that - reasonable optical design provided - inevitably at maximum aperture should be a bit better - but this is at best still 1,8er a "breath" better ! In this respect, the new 1.4 / 50G is of the processing and imaging performance - this includes the color display - a total blast. Photographed at f 1.4 and against a bright background, you can see chromatic aberrations. But I know of no high aperture lens in which this were not so.
A minor annoyance in the 50G was for me at first in the "Nikkor circles" unusual 58er front thread. A grab bag found in the 58 / 62er filter transition ring helped but to an adaptation of the popular Nikkor lenses with 62mm front thread of, the intentions are abundant in the collections of many Nikon photographers. The nice and unusual thing is that the included bayonet sun visor is removable via a 62er filter or filters similar intent or leaves attach. Therefore can be personalized with the lens also ordinary (image-wise!) Take close-up when namely the beautiful Nikon close-up lens 6T (62mm - mW no longer available, but needed to buy) unscrewing and thus on photo tours, which are not primarily comes to close-ups, the Micro-Nikkor can leave them at home.
Furthermore, the 1.4 / 50G is an affordable, fast aperture and lightweight portrait lens compared to the expensive block 1.4 / 85D for the full-size when using DX format.
Conclusion: For me, it is 1.4 / 50G a very nice and - just for the DX format - fully recommendable lens!
Trailer for use on FX cameras: On the D800 also shows clearly that this is the best 1.4 / 50 1.4 / 50G of the imaging performance, the Nikon has ever brought to market. It has in Aperture 1.4 and 2 a slight contrast and sharpness drop, but even the edges and corners still have a good performance on sharpness. Moreover, it is impeccable. This shows that when the same aperture and image-wise observation 1.8 / 50G is not better - I repeat: When "image-wise" consideration and not in the outermost corners Pixelpeeperei! Other terms of reports originate probably wishful thinking that it's more exciting when David Goliath beats! In addition, the 1,4er has the softer Bokeh for themselves, and this cuts much more harmonious than at f1.4 at f2.
