"My Song" is the second of four releases from Jarrett "European Quartet" with Jan Garbarek on sax, Palle Danielsson on bass and Jon Christensen on drums. Characteristic of the European Quartet is the abundant dominant saxophone of Garbarek, behind which Jarrett's piano must classify. Sometimes, however, the Sax is a bit too much in the foreground, so that it sometimes seems a little intrusive. In "My Song" two absolute classics namely the title track, he also likes to play an encore at solo concerts are united that are counting on Jarrett's eternal highlights (to hear about on "The Carnegie Hall Concert"), and the no less unique "Country", whose theme is firmly bites the ear and no longer goes out (which it never is!). The bass solo in "Country" is to die for! In addition, with "The Journey Home" is a piece of "My Song", which Jarrett probably sees himself as one of the most characteristic title of his European Quartet, because it is both in the "Works" - as well as on the "rarum" sampler to find. In contrast to these three pieces, however, drop the remaining three tracks on "My Song" strongly. The opener "Questar", "Tabarka" and the completely disinhibited therefore coming free jazz piece "Mandala" are not convincing in my opinion. Especially in the latter title is largely missing a line, a thread, and a listening may not be adjusted. Given the three very strong titles this is unfortunate in the overall assessment of "My Song". Noteworthy is the photo on the cover!
