Customer Review

- The report has now been but a little more detail than intended. Piece may just jump to the end of the conclusion -

I have long wrestled with me, I have long doubted. If there really is a Nikon D800 - or then after announcing a D810 are? Even a change to Canon with the super-equipped 5D Mark III had been available as an option.
From the now several years used, yet totally reliable D700 it nibbled for some time now to me, finally ascend to a more powerful sensor and the video features now available.
Since I am mainly in the wedding photography on the road, lay me especially haptic / handling, ISO and AF capability and a perfectly usable native resolution on the heart.
The last point was also the trigger, which is why I always put the D800 / D810 despite insanely wear comfort back on the shelf.
Next door stood mostly still a D610 with which I never wanted to be quite warm due to the housing and the something in relation to D700 unpleasant handle.
The change to the 5D Mark III with its ingenious (and real) Silent mode was partially standing in the room - but excreted because of expensive accessories. (If a reader is not yet completely dependent on Nikon, here might be worth a look)

The photo retailer then one day there was a D750 in the window and I was extremely impressed by the first touch. When viewing (in size) still labeled as D620, it turned out to be in his hand suddenly as "haptic gem".
If a bugged me while wearing the D700, it was the fact that the finger of the right hand generally clinked on the housing front. And I must say that I have rather medium to small hands.
I got used to it though after a while, but now the more I realized this pleasant finger freedom and still absolutely safe feeling when holding the new on. Even here, a vertical grip for optimal control will be essential, however, thanks to compact construction and yet long handle makes the small before everything right.
Furthermore, I am happy with Nikon's choice of material, which plastic, carbon fiber and magnesium covers. The housing feels very high quality without being noticed by too much weight.

Furthermore convinced me most other aspects as well, even more so than that I already could now test some shootings beside my still used D700:

- The ISO performance is really excellent - calculated in the same resolution corresponds to ISO 12800 absolute maximum ISO 6400 and the D700 is also well usable. The noise keeps one hand in the context, on the other hand this is rather fine and subjectively pleasing appearance.
- Autofocus convinced me already because of its speed in the store. Now after many photos outdoors I can also say that this is secure and due to the new group mode very well is especially true in fast action.
- The exposure was to the new mode "lights-weighted light" expanded, the care of all the lights in the frame, and these can not be burned out. Particularly useful for pictures at the spotlight, etc.
- In Bracketing (AE bracketing) can be used as the maximum distance is no longer just one but 3 f are chosen in three or five shots (!). The operation may finally be reasonably used with RAW.
- The momentum has grown well. In RAW can now roughly corresponding to the improved ISO performance also save under- or overexposure.
Currently, for Lightroom still no Nef codec available, but can the Raw either the updated Adobe Camera Raw for Photoshop - or the online beta available of Adobe DNG Converter loaded and imported into Lightroom (Update 19/11/2014: In the meantime, has Lightroom codecs - and works without problems)
- The shutter sound was strongly reduced. This is no longer quite as aggressive - although here Canon with the silent mode still has the nose in front and the D810 in "Quiet Mode" somewhat less noticeable. The D700 is in the Church and from already very vocal about something.
- The continuous shooting speed of 6.5 frames / sec and the internal buffer for 12 images (Raw 14-bit, 12-bit raw when the buffer holds space for 16 images ready) is sufficient for my purposes. With a fast SD card, this will reduce the terminal at about 1-2 frames / sec. For sports photography but I will probably continue to use additionally the D700 (with handle 7,7B / s, buffer for 16 Raws and 3 B / s after filling), which of course it is a pity that Nikon here a clear boundary between absolute professional will go -models (D4s) and the D750. Something like the D700 and the then ensuing sales slump in D3 will probably not happen as quickly.
- The available controls and their settings are super. I am particularly pleased that has (configurable in the settings Individual) held here as well the possibility of 100% view on the OK button, the ISO setting on the Movie button and the live iris adjustment in video mode feeder.

Especially the film function now of course contained was indeed one of my buying criteria since it has been implemented beautifully in the D750:

- The basic focus is in my opinion very good. Compared with a D810 a colleague I can not notice any differences. Even with the Canon 5D Mark III can keep up with Canon by the higher data rates and Magic Lantern in the film (post) production still in the lead.
- Full HD 60p and yet high image quality
- Einblendbares Zebra (marking of overexposure when recording movies)
- Directly attainable Quick Settings menu (microphone level, frame rate, microphone frequency response, etc.)
- (Press WB button longer hold gray card, press OK, ready) super fast to be set white balance with gray card or white paper
- Tools menu for video settings separately from the Photo Settings (Picture Control Settings), including a new flat profile for better post-processing options
- The swivel display makes a good impression so far - the future will show whether the metal bracket system is so robust, as alleged by Nikon. One advantage is of course that remain when tilting the control buttons on the left accessible. On the other hand, the display can never be folded protectively through the mechanism. Against scratches therefore may suggest a protective film. I have had good experiences for example with the right-fit atFoliX protector or the GGS LARMOR LCD display glass.

As indicated in the title, but I also made a few restrictions that might apply:
- The position of the lower FN button is located too far for me personally on the lens. In the D700 it is more accessible.
- The arrangement of the autofocus fields is unfortunately very central. Although a little further distributed as in the D610, but slightly narrower than the D810 and especially the D700. With a 35mm lens and open 1.4er shutter the image composition is not always optimally possible, whereas pivoting inevitably ends with short recording intervals in loss of sharpness. At present, therefore, is usually still rather the Tele to the small.
- No real mistakes, but probably firmware problems provide the following details are: The menu, and display or switch images always takes a little long moment. Furthermore, the display is generally activated when adjusting the ISO. Otherwise, I could see so far no teething problems.

Neutral I values, however, the following aspects:
- Existing Scene parameters and effect settings: Who does not want to take, this must not do - for beginners and customer base expansion certainly a smart move Nikons to integrate these.
- ISO, quality and white balance button are not left on the shoulder: The most important - in my opinion, the ISO button - can be put on the video recording button. The other I have hardly used, because I always shoot in RAW.
- Contrast autofocus somewhat towards the D700 improves, but rather used only in an emergency. Since forward the mirrorless or -halbdurchlässigen miles.
- Shortest exposure time of 1 / 4000s: While this is extremely bad - especially at f / 1.4 to get and again at the border - but by lowering the base ISO of 200 with the D700 with 1 / 8000s at ISO 100 the result at 1 / 4000s the same.
- Missing AF-ON button. The AE-L button can be assigned for example to the function. Likewise, the AE-L button on the optional MB-D16 battery grip.

Conclusion:

The D750 is due to inherited more from the consumer sector Direct settings (effects, automatics) and the housing size is no direct successor to the D700, but the welcome housing reduction in combination with perfect grip, superb video and autofocus quality and very good for many photographers ISO capabilities at a sufficient for me image resolution of 24MP.
Furthermore, all the important settings direct knobs (ISO Lowerable on video button) to achieve and the movie mode is in my opinion in relation to the price of the currently best in the DSLR range.

The D610 may choose people who on the one hand do not need the 60P mode with FullHD and where sufficient of smaller handle. Image Qualitatively, the two cameras at a height.
The D810 is the right choice for photographers who require high resolution of 36MP, which is not good is the body of the D750 in hand and if you need the direct buttons as quality, ISO and white balance on the top left. Further reduces the "Quiet Mode" the D810 whose conspicuousness something better than it can the law meaningless mode of D750.

Note at 01:12:14:
Now, after a few weeks of good use I can draw another conclusion: the ISO performance and autofocus speed is pleased me really extraordinary and the unusual compactness has become the pleasant "flatterer". The only thing that still annoys some, is the inertia in the menu and the image control. Here must urgently forth a firmware update. Who wants to know how fast, for example how to playback images may actually be allowed to take a look at Canon with her thumb.
Otherwise, I have not departed from my previously drawn conclusion. The whole thing is a nice compact piece of technology and useful tool.

Note on 25/12/2014:
Some will perhaps now the so-called "Dark Ribbon problem" have heard, which is currently circulating on the Internet and D750 owners. This refers to the appearance of unsightly Lensflares that do not fully radiate like normal light reflections from one side of the picture at a very specific angle, but only strong deposed from about one-eighth of the image occur. The site has petapixel.de this vividly (Link to article in the comments, because Amazon zulässst no addresses in the reviews - Alternatively, you can also search for "Dark Ribbon problem" search).
Since I first ran out of problems of individual, I was not much on it, placed the issue but now even determined - and she could by using a strong back light source and the old 50mm and 85mm the f / 1.8 AF-D and reconstruct.
The whole appears to be a hardware problem, in which a component of the autofocus sensor was inconveniently located in front of the sensor. With other cameras (D700, etc.), the problem does not occur or greatly reduced to. With a Sigma 35mm f / 1.4, the error by the way could not be repeated as opposed to a AF-S 50mm f / 1.8. It therefore seems to be a problem in combination with special lenses to act. Accurate in the linked post.
Until Nikon to deliver an opinion, to prospects who want to play it safe, up to date, unfortunately, only wait with the purchase.

Note on 09/01/2015:
According to Nikon, the "Dark Ribbon problem" has been taken in the meantime in the service. From the end of January affected devices are thus repaired free of charge.
The link to the service and Announcement page, please refer to one of the last comments about this review. Amazon lets in the product tests unfortunately no foreign links.

Note on 01/15/2015:
Currently Nikon leaves many traders recall the faulty stocks of D750. A "revised" version of the camera would therefore be within the next few weeks on sale. Who is afraid of the dark band problem, ie has the ability to get a little to wait with the purchase and strike in about a month. The problem should then be gone.
But I emphasize also that the often mentioned not "errors" in more than 99% of the shots appear. I myself have been able to provoke him only after numerous attempts at all. In regular operation, he never showed up.

On demand, it was the way that the job would still performed even after expired warranty. Hurry so has nobody. Especially since most currently quite long waiting times occur due to the many submissions.

-

Note on 02/23/2015:
After twelve days waiting period is now back on the repair my D750. The phenomenon is no longer provoked even under extreme conditions.
In Nikon's website for checking my serial number is now out as "unaffected".
A link to the control side can be found in the comments, because Amazon permits in the reviews not linked to external sites.
