A brief comparison with Smash Brothers
General Part:
For ages I have a Smash Bros. desired for the PS3, because I myself do not own current consoles from Nintendo. Now we have finally received Allstars a game that strikes roughly the same direction. Man pulls with different characters of Playstation history to fight, such as Kratos, Sackboy and Nathan Drake and can beat up your heart's content. The special feature here is that points are not achieved by the fact that opponents are thrown out of the arena. By attacking one fills rather a special bar that allows gradually access to 3 different degrees of special attacks, which you have to catch the opponent. What sounds quite some getting used to at the beginning, after a while makes this much fun. Depending on the game mode you have a certain number of "life", must reach a certain number of "kills" or must have the most points after a specified time.
On game modes there are the following to choose from:
(Short) story mode
Training included tutorials for various attacks and combos
Fight challenges where you have to master different tasks
Online ranked matches and friendlies
and of course a Versus mode where you can play against friends or computer opponents.
Roster and balancing:
Since I had never owned a PS1 or PS2, so I do not really interfere with the absence of certain characters (eg. Crash Bandicoot and Spyro). I am completely satisfied with the existing one.
The number of 20 figures I do not feel as negatively. This cause is due to the biggest selling point, the exhibit has the game: The characters all play incredibly different. I own Allstars since release and have not even explored half the roster right. Of course I have ever tried any, but I'm going to have all nearly understood in its full depth, be sure still take many hours of fun. There is up to a (half) except no Kloncharaktere.
Everywhere you can see how much love the designers were at work. For example, when Sackboy horrified grimaces when he is hit, a flits before a smile on the lips.
For each character, there are also tons of freischaltbarem material. Besides an additional costume, different intros and outros, taunts and songs there are quite a few little pictures and backgrounds, with which you can decorate his online profile.
XYZ IS OP, NERF ASAP (XYZ is too strong, weaken it off IMMEDIATELY)
When a new beat 'em up is displayed, there is always only once a huge outcry, because one or the other character seems too strong or others are completely no chance. But the fact is that, firstly, no casual gamers can give on this topic a reasonable estimate. Secondly, the game is not to capture long enough in the market all the tactics and their counterattack. In addition, the game was developed by people who have more knowledge of it than the normal average gamer. The folks over at Superbot have already successfully developed fighting games and would certainly not overlook things that play a mortal after 2 hours than feel too strong.
That are still balancing problems identifying give, of course, is already safe, but which beat 'em up is already perfect to release? The beauty of it is that Superbot can supply later patches, the first has already been published.
My personal impression is as follows: The balance is stable in large areas, there are no things that could bring the game to the brink of destruction (Game Breakers).
Party Factor
Who has estimated the party factor of Smash Bros, will have his fun with this game. Together with friends unfolds a colorful mess, in the spirit of the model. This results in many funny situations: for example, Sackboy If half the field covering with cake and chewing gum or a player stalking sent to a player to prügelndes Snarl and a 3x Kill dusting.
The control leans significantly on Smash Bros and is as easy to understand. However Allstars requires a longer adjustment period because the characters possess unique skills more, resulting in increased complexity. But once you have settled in with his character and got a sense of individual situations, the fights go afloat by hand.
Professional corner: Why so serious?
One thing, I consider myself not as a fighting game pro. But I get so a lot of experience with and know my way around in the Tunierszene different fighting games. In addition, I have been following the current discussions in the various forums.
In my humble opinion the game has a huge potential to develop a stable Tunierszene. Both 1v1 2v2 as well as bringing with enough depth and interesting to play. The characters have so few "hidden" secrets to be discovered, for example, various combos or Dante False Bold Cancel. For each match-up a different strategy must be developed, and there is ample room for Mind Games.
All peace, joy and pancakes?
Here the things that bother me in the game:
- (Yet) a 1v1 league Quick Match games
- Online mode is not stable. A friend of mine has no problems at all, in my dorm room, it is fine, but in my parents' house I can actually play with people from my contact list, Ranked or Quick matches are due to frequent disconnections hardly possible
- Story mode would have been a bit more calm
- Possible without solid team partner No 2v2 ranked games
A brief comparison with Smash Brothers
To be honest, my first impression of Allstars has disappointed me a little. Why? As an old smash Hase I approached the game, of course, and somehow just wanted to pay not a real game flow. Allstars namely requires his very own style of play, their own tactics and strategies. But who is ready to embrace it, will be rewarded with an exceptional title.
There are a few places where Allstars clearly has the edge for me. The greater complexity and the numerous strategies surrounding the Super-Kill concept on the one hand, the very different characters on the other.
In addition, the arenas are beautifully designed and clearly and especially not as hyperactive as in Brawl and Melee, but more reminiscent of the original Smash Bros. on the N64.
All in all one can say that both games are great and have their place. That Allstars may not have the same scope as Brawl should be clear, finally, the designers had to develop the characters once and balance.
And so we are already (?) Reached the end. I am pleased with constructive criticism and happy am involved in a possible discussion. Have fun while gambling.
