I opted for the 3TB version because it seemed to me best ratio price per GB has to offer. The hard drive is running as a backup medium for two Windows notebooks (Win7Ultimate, Win8.1Pro) and makes no problems. The recognition has to work immediately and the transfer rates are subjective ok for me. - One of the laptop has "only" USB 2.0 - accordingly take the data transmission here longer than the USB 3.0 connection of MacBooks (Windows via Boot Camp). When you first connect the data with "stuffed" disc to a computer, it naturally takes a while anyway the amount of data is first "read". But this is a one-shot deal. However, the main task of the WD My Book is the storage of the "Safe Points" our WD My Cloud. The connection is made via USB 3.0. This task comes to the plate with flying colors. The creation of the first "Safe Point" took nearly 10 hours for 1.2 GB - evtl.ist the processor of WD My Cloud unable to read the data more quickly (?) - For my purposes, the duration of storage but irrelevant .. , Fortunately, even the OS X Backup has been transferred to the WD My cloud with so that now there is a real data redundancy. On the backup data I can access directly, so they are not cryptic encrypted or similar - I like it very much. The drive can be controlled via the Explorer and the "Safely Remove" to end the use of Windows as usual. Then I pull the plug - so I miss the lack of power switch (almost) do not - and the WD My Book migrates to storage in the closet. Alternatively, one could switched outlet "switchable" designed. Operation upright works well for me, but the board also leaning against a wall shelf, so they can not fall for male discretion. For my purposes, both the USB 3.0 cable and the power cables are long enough. "Go into hibernation" I've adjusted to the shortest interval of 10 minutes, so that the plate when not in use also really soon gives peace. In operation, the WD My Book is audible, but not intrusive. For continuous operation (z. B. the router) but I would not put my plate into the living room, if you want to access on a regular basis. Every sound in the room drowned out the plate by far - but it "roars" when used in the background precisely. I would recommend anyone to test whether bothers him the soundscape. Why then "only" 4 stars - I do not have a power switch to the off WDMy Book - the "tug of war" on the power supply (particularly if the network connection is hidden) will certainly disturb me increasingly.
