What are the requirements a router with me thus:
- Gigabit Ethernet (for Media Center and NAS)
- Schneller WLAN (802.11n)
- Dual-band WLAN (Wi-Fi to fast on multiple devices at the same time can).
Thus, the selection is quite limited and I chose this unit from ASUS.
Scope of supply:
No manual just a quick installation guide (manual only on CD)
Telephone Cables + Soft
Unfortunately, no stand (my old router had one, thus the ASUS router can not exactly take its place)
Installation:
Unpacked device and plugged directly. Initial I have done wired LAN. But this I have no tools used by the bundled CD (do not have a CD-LW in my PC) but the same connected me directly to the router.
The default password I searched online manual's none of this (ie only on CD) and the Quick Start Guide contains only the information on the CD / Tool installation.
The first screen of the configuration page was with me then in Chinese. Not very user-friendly if you do not happen to some extent understood. English would be better here. After the initial configuration page which is equal but the configuration of wireless networks includes (SSID, password) but you can change the language already.
Configuration:
2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi can be configured separately or jointly. That means you can use both the same SSID / password combination or different. I opted for different SSIDs. This allows me to easily check which of my devices on which frequency band run.
In the DSL settings you select only the country and the provider. After that user name / password of the provider and already runs everything.
Performance:
Media Center and NAS attached to the Gbit Ethernet ports. The data transfer speed is with me between the two such as 80 to 90 Mbytes per second. Here I am very satisfied (100 Mbit Ethernet was between 7 and 8 MB / s).
The real joy, however, enters the WLAN. When data transfer between two laptops on different frequency bands (a 2.4GHz, the other 5 GHz) to reach a maximum speed of 20 Mbyte / s (at 54 Mbit and single band were less than 1 Mbyte / s).
The speed of a laptop to the NAS is about 25 MB / s (previously 1.5 Mbyte / s).
Thus even simultaneous streaming of HD content from the NAS to the media center and a comprehensive backup from laptop to the NAS are possible simultaneously.
The performance is therefore to my complete satisfaction.
Others:
All the other features I hardly use.
Firewall is on. Property here defines some rules for routing only for a VOIP phone.
Operating a USB flash drive into the USB port and enable the network was successful (I however do not use, was just a test).
Assigning fixed IP is simple (just click a device and select the option always same IP or something like that.
Guest-Fi, printer, etc. I have not tested (I do not need to date).
Operation:
The router runs with me at the POTS port (analog phone) at A1 (Austria).
Review:
Regarding my expectations. Performace are fully met. That was the main reason for because new router.
Little things like lack of manuals and stand and a chinesiche Erstkonfigurationsseite not bother me because it has no relevance for the operation.
He also is one of the cheaper devices.
Thus, 5 stars.
