For a long time I was looking for a really good headphones and busy myself with some tests. I had two choices: the Beyer DT 990 and the Sony MDR-Z1000. The Sony was once just twice as expensive. Since I already the MDR-XB700 have, I had the Sony considered favorites. Far from it. The Beyer DT 990 sounds much better in my opinion. Well made, easy to carry (even after hours), excellent sound. Tested with the legendary saga remastered In Transit. With Careful Where You Step The cymbal crashes are much clearer, silkier and more present than the Sony. This may sound rather sterile and no pep. Also the bass is the Sony very feeble, in my opinion much too underemphasized. Audible in A Briefcase same CD. Tests were also the 24 bit recording of Fugazi (Marillion). Again, the Beyer plays with a joy that has no equal. Since this recording sounds very clear, you are at Sony after a while tired of the higher tones. Not so with the Beyer. Sonically round and dynamic he comes along and even after hours of listening fatigue will not occur. Quite the contrary. Since I have it, I let almost anything just run through the headphones (movies, TV and music). Sounds simple turn clear, dynmischer and closer.
For me one of the best headphones that there is a price - performance ratio, that has no equal.
