If you look at how many waiters knife, corkscrew and wine closures there, this sensible utensil by the designers seem to be somehow neglected. It is extremely useful for perhaps 30% of all wine bottles, namely those that have a foil cap without Abreißbändchen. Without the foil cutter kitchen knife to be sawed stump on the bottle neck or one scratches the film with the corkscrew and pulls it off completely, which is not always easy. Both methods are also somewhat injury prone. Although there are relatively few alternative products, these cover at least from a wide price field. The cheapest part there of Fackelmann in well-stocked supermarkets. For me, this tool has not kept long; after one year has dropped a steel cutting wheel. Other alternatives are there by Eva Solo, Le Creuset, Screwpull (identical with Fackelmann but for triple the price), Vacu Vin BV and further. But WMF is the only manufacturer, in which I found a really quality product made of metal. The cutting rollers are made of hardened stainless steel and cleanly turned. Something annoying I find that of all the neuralgic roller bearings are made of plastic (s. Kundenbilder). That may hold, but gives me no confidence in lifetime durability. Of course, this part does not weigh as currently specified in the product description 1.4kg but "only" 150g. This is for such a small part but quite tidy and makes a noble impression. It is priced in the upper segment, but is still not the most expensive, and one can always find time offer. The function is perfect, the cut no corners and lacerations.
