First: I am with this device (the summer of 2011 bought) very satisfied, but would complement the reviews of other reviewers:
My "Setup"
Boxes: T & A Triton R130 (90 from the beginning, but rather high quality)
Subwoofer: Canton AS 85.2 SC
He has replaced a Pioneer A656 Amplifier.
Frankly, I was hesitant at first, whether the Onkyo my elderly but damalig the "reference class" members Pioneer, the water can reach. Well, they can be difficult to compare. The Pioneer sounded punchier and "warmer", the Onkyo contrast "analytical", somehow "sharper" (well what another reviewer called "burred") and center-weighted, but better than I expected ... especially the Boxes are not well adapted to this receiver. The subwoofer I've gained to help the missing "volume" in the low frequency range a little because of the Pioneer was definitely better. Moreover, for DVDs and Blurays, but rather represent a secondary application.
Otherwise, everything is already said, so supplementing:
- On the receiver a simple web server, the simple settings (network, favorites) runs allowed via Web browser on the computer.
- The receiver is fairly well supplied with firmware updates.
- The Remote App for Android (with me 2.3) is OK, but not great, especially with the volume setting wasting it often because it appears quite imprecise and (at least on my HTC Wildfire S) incomplete at the bottom. The purpose of the app opens up probably only with "Zone2" feature, so connecting a speaker set in a different room, as it is then independent of the only "visual contact" functional IR remote. As improvements are, however, with the following versions may still arise.
- The headphone jack works but the owner of a high quality headphones should consider the purchase of a headphone amplifier into consideration.
- Networking functions operate fully with me, both in LAN (Twonky server on QNAP TS-119) and on the Internet (Radio)
- The range of inputs is truly luxurious.
- A nice feature is that you can input specific change level. Thus, for example a turntable with a moderate pickup lifting something. Have the feature but lack Phono can not test.
Conclusion: In my opinion, unrivaled in this price range, I would buy it again at any time. Also due to this fact, the few and hardly weighty disadvantages me no deduction worth.
