The first album was titled * Return In Bloodred * and was released in 2005 on Metal Blade Records. The five musicians had worked out an interesting concept that consisted of a mixture of classic embossed metal combined with the grandeur of a classically trained singer and sacred moments included.
The production of the CD is kept deliberately bleak. The songs sound riffig, compact and entertaining. The use of the organ (!!!) initially acts unusual but perfectly the mood of the album and raised his mighty voice of Attila Dorn clearly to the fore. Musically raised you otherwise but little from the usual metal bands from. Although Powerwolf were something that could be quite Erschaffens regarded as independent style, but the musicians rummaged around too much in the common phrases.
Lyrically they gave up just genre-compliance. Something Devil here, a little there, Satan and a few other mystical elements let the lyrical talent appear not necessarily their own. It predominates rather feel the Powerwolf both musically and lyrically not found the courage to think outside the box, but much rather wanted to use old school safety conscious knitting patterns. The end result is without exception entertaining and amusing, but the bottom line provides little new.
The answer to the question What happens when you combine a classic-oriented metal band with the grandeur of a classical trained singer * was * still * postponed to Return To Bloodred. The successor * Lupus Dei * spoke already a much more sophisticated language.
CONCLUSION: entertaining home with good approaches, but mutlosem songwriting ...
