The following criteria were decisive for my decision:
- Max. Focal Length
- Picture quality
- Price
Max. Focal length
Of course, this criterion a bit unfair to compare two different max. Focal lengths. However, this must always be considered in conjunction with the associated image quality (eg noise, etc., sharpness). However, so would also be possible that the image quality of the 55-300mm lens from 200mm would no longer be acceptable.
After the first test runs (with variations: inside, outside, Incandescent, Flash and strong sunlight) I am very pleased with the 55-300 mm. It turns out that in the upper zoom range frequently discussed slight noise, although this still occurs in a tolerable extent.
In my opinion, the 100 mm focal length to be worth more as compared to the other product, which is very often referred to as a secret.
Picture quality
All comments and image examples in forums, I can fully confirm my first pictures. The lens can provide crisp images and a beautiful bokeh. By the image stabilization VR II photographing is strongly supported in the upper zoom range straight. (My restless hands are very grateful for this technology;) This can also often use a tripod substitute - but not always.
I am satisfied to very satisfied with the picture quality throughout the zoom range.
Price
Between the lenses is a price difference of 100 euros. (Though it must be remembered that we are in the consumer area) I would have liked the 100 Euro spent less and thus - buy good Obejektiv - according to many tests and opinions. Irritated me have the 100 mm focal length but more so. Whether it is the value, everyone must decide for themselves. I do not regret the decision.
Summary
The Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 55-300mm 1: 4,5-5,6G ED VR makes a very good figure with minimal restrictions in the upper zoom range. These are in my opinion, but negligible. While Nikon has announced the 55-200 mm lens version a solid, which is now seen as a real bargain, I think Nikon could with the 55-300mm version when it comes to image quality, etc., connect well. So there was for me to decide whether to pay off the 100 euros more, exclusively to the trade-off between 200mm and 300mm max. Focal length limited. For me it was worth it.
