I also wondered why I in a unit the card much more fits than the other. Remeasuring with calipers showed that the horizontal position in the depth between two devices by 1.6 mm is different, although this is for the function regardless. Obviously, the manufacturing tolerances are simply too high.
Further, the pins of the CF card reader sit so loose in the surrounding plastic, that they are sometimes pressed for inserting the CF card into it. This happens especially when the CF card is not exactly pushed fits what for above problem is actually normal. With magnifying glass and tweezers Micro I could pull the pins out again, but I am sure that most users would fail because it needs the appropriate tools and skills.
The cables are quite scarce, but should be enough for a normal case just made. I have a full-tower case, and the device is installed at the top of 'former floppy over bay'. For USB and SATA cable I have used extensions. Audio has just as yet fitted. So remeasure only and, if necessary, order the same extension with. The cable lengths (each without connector): Audio: 72 cm, USB3: 62cm, USB2: 52cm, SATA: 48cm.
You can use only one of the card slots simultaneously. If there are several only the first pushed-card will be recognized. If you look at the internal USB2 cable through which the data is transmitted so, it is also clear why: Although it has a 9-pin connector (equivalent to 2 times side by side 4 pole pin header) and therefore occupies 2 USB ports on the board but only one of the two USB channels is wired, ie it is only 4 wires inside instead of 8 and only a USB channel, and thus a plug-in card can be addressed. As someone has probably again found 3 cents savings. The USB3 port is not used for the plug-in cards: before I had wired the USB2 port (because I had to get the extension cord only) were the cards dead.
Electrically else has so far everything works both Linux as Windows 7. (mini) SD cards go really only up to 8 GB, at least a 16GB card is not recognized. The device is also specified so. Nevertheless shame.
For the front panel 2 slides are available in white and silver this stick to itself. That's pretty Pfriemelei because the holes are not punched properly and you only have to help with cutter etc., and you also have to be careful with the small slits, not to stick to the slots half. It takes a steady hand to do so.
The guide is written in a mixture of English with some German and individual Chinese characters. That certainly has entertainment value. The CE logo leads the unit, however wrongly, as it provides a manual in the local language. On the other hand you can make with the wiring is nothing wrong if you just get in there lies the cable on the motherboard, where they fit mechanically.
All in all, a cheap device in every respect. Who is willing to accept anger can certainly save a few euros. But as one of my devices has to be simply classified as defective, and goes back, and the other is hardly improved, I can not forgive more than 1 star. My urgent advice: for just a few euros more there brand devices which are well worth the extra cost.
